Slash to appear in Guitar Hero III

Activision announced on Tuesday that legendary guitarist Slash of Guns N' Roses will provide an original track and appear as a boss battle character in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The news comes as EA's anticipated and more diverse Rock Band gains considerable attention.

"Welcome to the Jungle" will be included in the game's soundtrack that also features songs by The Rolling Stones, Beastie Boys, Muse and Pearl Jam to name a few.

"Guitar legend Slash, combined with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock's robust soundtrack and innovative new game features, will continue to solidify the brand's leadership in the rhythm-action genre," said Robin Kaminsky, executive vice president of Activision Publishing.

Activision also announced an exclusive deal with Gibson Guitars to be featured in the game, specifically a wireless Les Paul guitar controller for all next generation versions including PS3, Xbox 360, Wii and PS2.

"We have combined the power of Gibson with the power of Activision to produce one of the greatest games ever for consumers. We are sure game enthusiasts around the world will quickly make Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock a huge success," said Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of Gibson Guitar.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is slated for release this fall.
