Now that both Microsoft and Sony have already had their say in regards to their respective consoles' online usage statistics, it's finally time for the Big "N" to show us the numbers. In an announcement today, Nintendo stated that their DS handheld system reached two significant online milestones.

First, the company was proud to proclaim that a total of more than 5 million unique users around the world have connected to Nintendo's wireless gaming service. And secondly, the total number of worldwide gameplay sessions has now reached in excess of 200 million.

Nintendo states that there are nearly 65 DS games that can be played online through Nintendo's Wi-Fi hardware, and according to their statistics, the five most popular titles worldwide are Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, Metroid Prime Hunters, Pokemon Diamond, and, of course, Pokemon Pearl.

The company also states that consumers from other demographic backgrounds have contributed to their success, as women and people in older age ranges have increasingly bought DS units. According to Nintendo's statistics, DS purchases by women have increased by 42%, and purchases by people over the age of 35 increased by 212%, all within a span of less than 18 months.
