A quickie report from IGN today indicates that Square Enix's principle cash cow, Final Fantasy XIII, will not be released to the public until the beginning of the next Japanese fiscal year, at the earliest.

Following the company's briefing in Tokyo today in regards to their financial performance during the last fiscal year ended March 31st, reporters engaged Square Enix president Yoichi Wada in an open Q&A session. In response to a question regarding the planned release for Final Fantasy XIII, Wada stated:

"It will still take a bit more time. At the very least [a release] this fiscal year is definitely out of the question."

Since the Japanese fiscal year begins in April and ends in March, the earliest possible release date for Final Fantasy XIII is April 2008. Although no word was made regarding the company's numerous satellite titles that will also bear the Final Fantasy XIII label, one can safely assume that they have also been subsequently delayed.
