Smash Bros. Brawl site goes live, kicks butt, takes names

The official website for Super Smash Bros. Brawl has gone live, revealing information regarding gameplay basics, stages, and the game's long, long, long list of composers.

Last week, it became evident that Nintendo has been influenced by the latest trend in video game marketing: the teaser site countdown. On Tuesday, GamePro reported on the complete demolition of the original site devoted to Super Smash. Bros. Brawl, which would be replaced by a new site entitled "Smash Bros. Dojo". Just today, the countdown to the relaunch finally reached zero, revealing a new website that will offer its game-related information in blog-style posts, which will be available in six different languages: Japanese, English (U.S. and U.K.), German, Spanish, French, and Italian.

Kick butt from dawn to dusk to dawn again.

Each post will be placed under one of the seven available categories: Characters, How to Play, Game Modes, Stages, Items, Music, and Notices. So far, three posts have been written. The first deals with the basic rules of Smash Bros., which most veterans of the series should already be familiar with.

The second post contains screenshots and a brief explanation of a the stage entitled "Battlefield". Although it shows only four screenshots of this simplistic stage containing only one main platform and three "pass-through" platforms, the post also explains how time will have an effect on the stage's visuals, as "Battlefield" will gradually change from day to night and back to day again over time.

The third post deals with the music, and contains an incredibly long list of composers that have contributed to the series. The majority of them are Nintendo employees, who have worked on such famed series as Mario, Zelda, and Metroid, but some composers have been borrowed from other publishers, such as Konami Capcom, and Square Enix. Noted external composers include Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, Xenogears), Michiko Naruke (Wild Arms), and Akihiro Honda (Metal Gear Solid). The post also contains a sampling of one of the stage tracks, which will play in the background of "Battlefield".

Although these three posts are all that the site offers at the moment, the developers have promised a daily update every weekday. Unfortunately, the site contains no concrete information pertaining to its American release date apart from a "2007 release".
