Bungie announces a September release date for Halo 3, months earlier than expected.

September 25th, 2007 is the day. In a surprise announcement, Bungie today revealed their final release date for Halo 3 on the Bungie.net forums. The news is somewhat surprising given that the two previous games launched in November, a crucial period for holiday game sales.
By releasing Halo 3 in September, Microsoft's Xbox 360 will get a boost from early holiday shoppers and will ride that momentum into November and early December, the watermark game console shopping months.
ZOMG. This is the best news I've heard all week. I think Microsoft will get a real holiday sales jolt out of this -- it will really let them sell more Xbox 360s in 2007, making them even stronger for 2008.
Sony's most pressing problem is they lack a mega-hit Halo-style game for the PS3. Metal Gear 4 is rumored to have been pushed to early 2008. And Killzone might do it, but it's months off.
