Of course, the words StarCraft MMO could mean a ton of things, including the unlikely return of StarCraft: Ghost. *grin*
Last month, Gamepro reported that a brand new installment to the widely acclaimed StarCraft series was rumored to be released before the end of 2007. Now, a new source has provided new rumors stating that it will not only be announced later this month, but that it will also have, at its heart, a gameplay engine very similar to World of Warcraft.
Over the weekend, CVG reported that "well placed US sources" have confirmed that the game, currently being referred to as Starcraft MMO, will be one of the highlights at the Worldwide Invitational event in Seoul, South Korea -- a country which has long been the hub for the sci-fi RTS genre.
Blizzard Entertainment has currently made a name for itself with their much lauded MMORPG, World of Warcraft, an online title first released back in 2004 that has since developed a base of more than six million players worldwide. While Vivendi Games, head of distribution for both the Warcraft and StarCraft franchises, is very excited about the announcement, the publisher is nonetheless remaining tight-lipped about the finer details until the actual press conference. And with the conference just right around the corner, fans of the series won't have long to wait.
