Kutaragi planning out PlayStations 4, 5, and 6

Soon-to-be former SCEI CEO Ken Kutaragi has looked past his days of being a Sony executive, and claims that he has some lofty goals in the near and far future, including the planned conception of Sony's next three home console systems.

Sony's Ken Kutaragi has apparently wasted no time in mapping out the future of the PlayStation brand. Since GamePro announced that the veteran executive will be stepping down as group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. starting June 19th, Kutaragi has now been free to reveal what one of his next projects will be.

"As a matter of course, I have the vision of PlayStation 4, 5, and 6, which will merge into the network," Kutaragi stated, in a recent interview with EETimes.

Although details were scant, Kutaragi cryptically stated that he plans on following up the creation of the PS3 and the Cell processor with creating a brand new world on the network. This will undoubtedly be one of his new tasks as Sony's special senior technology advisor, and will more than likely involve the Cell.

However, although some of his future work will be Sony-related, the executive also admits that most of his projects will be independent of his former company.

Lately, Kutaragi has also been mired by speculation postulating that his retirement was more of an ousting than a resignation. However, he consistently maintains that his decision to leave the company was purely his own. In particular, he places blame for his decision to stay on Sony's executive payroll until June squarely on the shoulders of last year's infamous blue laser diode shortage, which drastically delayed the European launch of the PS3 for more than four months.

"I could not talk about the next step [then]. We've introduced PS3 in Europe, so now I can openly talk about [future plans]", he said.
