Blizzard to announce new title next month

Several news sources indicate that Blizzard's next project could be a new MMO or a StarCraft sequel, but the company hopes to keep its lips shut until their formal announcement next month.

As GamePro revealed in an earlier piece, rumors had begun surfacing on various Korean gaming sites, alluding to the possiblity that Blizzard had been working on a sequel to their megahit StarCraft, which would feature a brand new race using Kerrigan as a base. Gaming blog Kotaku followed up with the story by contacting Blizzard, who offered this official response:

"We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present."

But a recent job posting on Blizzard's promotional website points towards three brand new positions that are currently being offered by the company. All three of them require work on a new project labeled as a "Next-Gen MMO".

Although some observers have theorized that this new project could be a console rendition of the unstoppable World of Warcraft series, others have hypothesized an MMO based on a previous Blizzard franchise, such as a "World of StarCraft". Alternatively, it could be an MMO based on a completely original IP, but it looks like we'll have to wait until next month to find out. GamePro will work to sniff out leads and keep you posted as soon as more information is revealed.
