Confirmed: no co-op, no zero-g modes in Crysis

Encroaching deadlines and AI tweaks have forced Crytek to abandon a number of supplemental play options, the most important of which is the abandoned co-op mode.

High-end PC gamers have been wondering for a while now: will Crysis contain co-op and zero gravity play modes?

Only if it's left up to the modding community, Crytek responded.

In a recent interview with Eurogamer, senior game designer Bernd Diemer confirmed that, due to time restrictions, neither cooperative multiplayer modes nor zero gravity play will be made available in the final version of the eagerly-awaited FPS Crysis.

Instead, the developers at Crytek have been focusing on tuning up the game's complex enemy AI to eliminate the possibility of forum denizens badmouthing the game on account of witnessing enemy units inexplicably running around in circles. On the contrary, Diemer boasts that computer-controlled opponents in his game will be very intelligent and will attack and maneuver in groups like a well-oiled machine.

And lastly, Diemer has also taken issue with the recently leaked Crysis footage that shows gameplay at a very early stage of development. According to Diemer, the game has made vast strides since that time and is absolutely no indication of what will emerge as a final product. However, when asked about the game's current development phase, he responded that it is now "nearly" at alpha stage. We might have to wait for this game for just a little while longer.
