The BioWare epic in the making has seen an unfortunate delay in its release schedule after being confirmed as of now with a September release date.

According to a report today from CVG, BioWare's heavily-awaited futuristic RPG Mass Effect has encountered a significant delay. No longer scheduled to be in stores sometime in June or July, the epic game for the Xbox 360 is now being prepped for a September release date.

The article reports that word of this announcement comes from an official Microsoft event this morning. However, specific details pertaining to the delay were not revealed.

Unfortuantely, this September release would force the BioWare title to become a direct competitor to another Xbox 360 RPG: the anime-esque Blue Dragon, which has already seen success after its release late last year in Japan. However, observers will be quick to point out differences between the two games in terms of setting, theme, and style, thereby bringing up the likelihood that each game will establish its own unique audience.

[UPDATE: Although CVG claims that this news comes from an "official MS event", GameDaily Biz has recently come into contact with a representative of Microsoft, who has flatly denied the delay:

"We have not made any official announcements regarding release timing for Mass Effect. At this time, any information about the game's release date is purely rumor and speculation," the representative stated.]

GamePro will keep you updated on the situation as soon as more information becomes available.
