Although Best Buy indicated the possible delay of the upcoming Metroid sequel just weeks ago, Nintendo confirmed today that the title definitely won't be hitting the shops as early as intended.

In a recent interview with Newsweek's N'Gai Croal, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has been delayed, and won't see release for another few more months, to ensure that the game is as "perfect" as possible when it's finally released.

"Metroid is not going to ship by June. We've announced all of our games through the end of June", Fils-Aime explained, "And the fact with Metroid is we want to make sure that that game is perfect. Unfortunately, Metroid Prime 2 didn't live up to our expectations, it didn't live up to Retro's expectations."

Metroid Prime 3: Corruptions joins Super Mario Galaxy as another of the Wii's "killer aps" to receive an extended delay, but Nintendo fans still have Mario Party 8 and Pokemon Battle Revolution to look forward to in the coming months. Super Paper Mario will also see release on the Wii in the US next week.

Although Fils-Aime can't offer a confirmed release date for the Wii installment of the Metroid series, he's adamant that it will be worth the wait:

"We want the sell-through as well as the critical acclaim for Metroid Prime 3: Corruption to be the best in the series, and that's a lofty bar," he states. "To do that is taking a little bit more time than we had anticipated. But it's coming. And it will be great."
