In what can only be called a quirky interview on GameSpot today, Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing & corporate affairs, and Scott Steinberg, Sega of America's vice president of marketing, offered to shed some light on the recently announced game, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
With Sega still creating titles for Nintendo's platforms, there has always been a lot of wishful thinking about their mascots partnering up. The fact that this has finally come about, but in an Olympic setting, has certainly raised a few eyebrows. But, the duo wants to reassure fans that Shigeru Miyamoto, iconic gaming legend and Mario's creator, is going to have some influence in the development of this game:
"He will be very involved sort of during the development process and at the end, which we hope to people signifies the priority of this product for our company," stated Kaplan.
As for Sega's end, Steinberg informed the site that Sonic Team won't be involved in its development, but did confirm that the game is being developed at Sega Japan.
Both representatives have remained tight-lipped about other aspects of the game and only repeated what had already been revealed earlier, such as the small list of confirmed characters and playable events. However, as a means of provoking some of their more curious fans, the pair also had this to say:
"[N]ever say never -- because I think, 15 years ago, you never would have thought this would happen, and so "never say never" is a great way to characterize it."
Who knows what the (now) comfortable rivals will have in store for us next?
