In a statement issued yesterday, Capcom announced that the next installment of the popular Devil May Cry series will be released simultaneously on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with a PC version to be released sometime thereafter.

Devils may cry, but Sony must also definitely be in tears to see one of its most lucrative franchise exclusives get released on rival hardware. In a press release from Capcom's main Osaka branch, Capcom said that it will be "pursuing a multiplatform strategy to help enhance profits", indicating that Capcom is no longer willing to bet on the PlayStation 3 being the undisputed console champion this generation. Then again, a multiplatform strategy is nothing new for the Osaka-based publisher, whose other major series (Resident Evil, Viewtiful Joe, Mega Man) have already gone multiplatform. Devil May Cry 3, in fact, was released for the PC last year. Nevertheless, Devil May Cry 4 will mark the series' first foray on the Xbox.
Meanwhile, Capcom's American arm also had a few words on the subject:
"Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal," said Mark Beaumont, executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe. "This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360 and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience the latest installment of one of Capcom's pillar franchises."
Both press releases also state that the different console iterations will "take advantage of each platform's hardware strengths to achieve the most stunning visuals in the series to date", although it did not go into specifics as to the particular differences between each version. One thing that was also not mentioned was the possibility of a Wii release, despite hints to that effect by producer Hiroshi Kobayashi last year.
Release dates for each version still have yet to be announced.
