All is quiet on the PS3 download front this week, but the Xbox 360 and Wii get a lot of love from the animal kingdom as two famous creatures find their way to the Virtual Console and XBLA.
Wii
This week's first release for the Virtual Console is the Genesis classic Sonic Spinball. This Sega gem was a divergence from the traditional Sonic games, and it saw the blue-spiked wonder saving his furry friends from the evil Dr. Eggman (as traditional a Sonic story as you can get) by making his way through numerous levels designed around elaborate pinball tables. Sonic Spinball is all yours for 800 Wii Points.
Double Dungeons is next on the Wii download list. This one is a 3D RPG that had an original debut on the TurboGrafx16. The game is unique from many other RPGs because of its two-player option, which is still innovative even today. It also had a scenario system that allowed the player to complete 21 different quests in whatever order they choose before heading to the final scenario to fight the last boss. Double Dungeons will set you back 600 Wii Points.
Lastly on Virtual Console, Tecmo Bowl is the classic football game that hit big on the NES. Long before video game endorsements of official team or player names, the game throws twelve made up teams at you. A simple power meter lets you control your shots with a mix of simple but enjoyable defensive strategies to help you win! Tecmo Bowl will cost 500 Wii Points.
Xbox 360
Microsoft revealed earlier today that the 1989 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles arcade beat-em-up would be seeing its way on the Xbox Live Marketplace this Wednesday. The game will be released through Ubisoft (who currently own the TMNT license) in agreement with Konami, the original producers of the coin-up version.
Development of the XBLA refined version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is being handled by Digital Eclipse, also responsible for developing two other Konami games which recently received the Live Marketplace makeover: Contra and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.
The game is set to go live on XBLA on Wednesday at 2amPT, and is yours for 400 Microsoft Points.
