GDC: flOw - the Wii title that might have been

Representatives from That Game Company admitted today that they entertained the idea of developing flOw for the Wii before deciding to bring it to the PS3.

While it's still just a fresh face in the industry, That Game Company has already made waves with the recent release of flOw, Jenova Chen's "life-in-the-primordial-soup" game exclusively available on the PlayStation Store. But before the company put themselves on the gaming map, they had to come to an important decision: Sony or Nintendo?

"That was the hardest decision we ever had to make," says TGC present Kellee Santiago at a GDC Q&A session.

Central to flOw's gameplay is the game's usage of the motion-sensing capabilities of the PS3's SIXAXIS controller, which is also an available function on Nintendo's Wii controller. Still, the company eventually went with Sony.

"Sony kind of came to us with the process of incubation," Santiago continued. "They helped us get our studio started."

But That Game Company's current partnership with Sony should not be taken as a sign of total exclusivity, Chen states.

"In the end, we are game makers and not console makers," he said, clarifying that a possible future collaboration with Nintendo is still possible.
