Electronic Arts procures distribution rights to a next-gen game under development by the makers of Guitar Hero.
Last night at a posh Game Developers Conference bash held in a 15th floor luxury suite in downtown San Francisco, Electronic Arts surprised the gaming industry with the announcement that it had reached an agreement to publish an MTV-backed game currently under development by Harmonix, makers of Guitar Hero.
(In September 2006, MTV Networks purchased Harmonix. Earlier in 2006, Activison purchased Red Octane, the publisher of Guitar Hero.)
Speaking at the industry event, MTV spokesperson Jeff Castaneda (formerly of Rockstar Entertainment), told GamePro News, "This is a huge development for MTV, Harmonix, and Electronic Arts. We'll be releasing details shortly regarding the game, but rest assured that it will be ground-breaking."
Given the MTV and Harmnonix tie-in, it's safe to assume that this unannounced title will involve some level of interactive music. Specifics regarding the gameplay are nonexistent, but rumors swirling around this unannounced MTV/Harmonix game have ranged from a Wii-based karaoke-style experience to a combination of dancing/karaoke gaming.
