Final Fantasy Tactics, one of the most beloved tactical RPGs in video game history, is finally getting a PSP makeover, but the best news of all is that it's coming out in Japan this May. According to a report from Famitsu.com, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War is set for a tentative release date of May 10th in the Japanese market.
The Lion War will be a direct remake of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PlayStation, and claims to have left all of the addictive gameplay of the original completely untouched. But the development team has also promised a number of new features, such as full FMV sequences for some of the more dramatic scenes in the plot, new online multiplayer options, and new job classes, including the "Onion Knight" job class from Final Fantasy III for the NES. In addition, Balthier from Final Fantasy XII will also be featured as a playable character, and will even receive his own plot arc.

The remake is part of a more ambitious Square Enix project called the "Ivalice Alliance", which aims to simultaneously release Final Fantasy games that take place in the fictional world of Ivalice. The other two games in this project are Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (a sequel to FF XII on the DS) and Final Fantasy Tactics: Fuketsu no Grimoire (a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance also on the DS).
Although May 10th is the Japanese release date, there has been no word yet from Square Enix of America regarding an impending North American release.
