In a press release dated today, 3-D animation developer NaturalMotion announced their recent agreement with Rockstar Games that grants the video game publisher the usage of their "euphoria" engine. Rockstar plans to integrate the engine into its upcoming next-gen titles.
The euphoria engine is based on NaturalMotion's Dynamic Motion Synthesis (DMS) technology, which, according to the release, "simulates the human body and motor nervous system, thus creating fully interactive game characters that act differently every time." The highly-publicized engine is also currently being used to develop LucasArts' upcoming game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
"euphoria is about giving people an interactive experience they have never seen before. We now have the processing power to simulate humans, and the possibilities for games are endless," said Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion.
"In Rockstar, we have found a partner that shares this vision, and is renowned for creating some of the most ground-breaking and immersive games in the industry. We are thrilled and honored to work with a partner of such high caliber, and look forward to helping create amazing titles."
Rockstar has yet to announce any specific titles that will be integrated with the engine, but analysts have predicted that at least one next-gen game from the highly popular Grand Theft Auto series will likely be included in the mix.
