With the launch of the PS3 on European shores fast approaching, Sony has officially announced some wallet-friendly prices for first-party PlayStation 3 games sold within the region.

It has been established that EUR 59.99 / GBP 39.99 ($79 USD) will be the MSRP for MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man on the day of the console's release and future first-party titles. In comparison, Xbox 360 games are usually sold at a suggested retail price of approximately EUR 70 ($92 USD) or GBP 50 ($98 USD). European games for the Nintendo Wii are priced at approximately EUR 60 / GBP 40, which is nearly identical to Sony's pricing plan.

Sony has also announced prices for content on the online front, emphasising that games such as flOw and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will be available for an introductory period "at prices which range from 2.99 euros to 9.99 euros" ($4 to $13), depending on the title.

"Not only will it be completely free to register on the PlayStation Network with no subscription fees," says SCEE president and CEO David Reeves on the subject of pricing, "but with these competitive prices for additional content we are able to offer the consumer both top quality games on Blu-ray discs and a whole range of downloadable content."

"With over 30 first and third party disc and network games available at launch, we are confident that this will be one of the most successful launches of all time," he concluded.
