With the fuel point on the hill now secured, our forces on the other side of the road were given the go-sign to push on with their objectives. Because our forces were stretched thin, we could only send one Sherman and two rifle squads, a less than optimal situation. And our worst fears were realized when they reached the objective and came across strong opposition: infantry backed by two Panzers and a well entrenched anti-tank gun. We tested the German forces' mettle but our Sherman took heavy damage. With no prospect of victory, we pulled back and regrouped.
Another sector falls under our control
Our second attempt to take the objective went much better. We brought the Pershing to bear, running it straight down the middle to flank the enemy and catch them unawares. Once the Pershing had bulled its way through their flank, our Sherman and infantry sprinted forward and made short work of the Panzers. The anti-tank crew proved more resilient until one of our infantry units tossed a grenade their way. With the sector now secured, we began our final push towards Autry.
Captain Schultz and his forces had nowhere left to go. From the top of our hill, we could see dozens of German vehicles attempting to flee out of the Falaise pocket through Autry - we had to cut off this escape route at all costs. We knew that Schultz and his Tiger were in bad shape, having taken numerous hits from our guns. Therefore, we decided that the best course of action was to simply storm forward.
The German forces are backed into a corner
