After this skirmish, there followed an eerie stillness on the battlefield. Our men spent several minutes waiting as supplies and reinforcements made their way up to the front for our next push. Alas, this was all to change when we moved forward towards the next area - a fuel point atop a well defended hill. When we made our first tentative push to take the area, Schultz arrived with some of his men, adding their firepower to what was an already fearsome defensive force.
We advanced on the hill with a Sherman and infantry but they were immediately hit by an avalanche of bullets and shells. Waiting for us at the top was a Panzer IV and Schultz's Tiger. The Sherman didn't last long but it held out long enough for our Pershing to join the fray. Ignoring the enemy infantry, the Pershing made a beeline for the German tanks and destroyed an Ostwind and the Panzer IV before Schultz could bring his gun around. However, sensing that the tide had turned, Schultz quickly moved back towards Autry, leaving the hill to the defense of the Volksgrenadiers.
Schultz returns to cause more trouble
Despite the apparent victory, our Pershing was heavily damaged and had to retreat back to our base for repairs. Having suffered large losses on our first attempt to move up the hill, we attempted a more nimble advance, opting to forge ahead without the aid of heavy armor support. We brought up two infantry squads and a half-track armed with the quad-machinegun upgrade, which allowed us to quickly decimate the remaining German infantry.
With the hill secured we moved up the rest of our forces, including the freshly repaired Pershing and a Sherman tank. We also took control of a German anti-tank gun and used it to guard the approach to the hill while we began to move forward on the other side of the road. This is when Schultz reappeared, making a desperate attempt to regain the hill. Backed by his Tigergroupen, Schultz threw his German armor at our defenses; unfortunately for him, we'd dug ourselves in fairly well and after losing both of his escorting vehicles and infantry squads, he limped back to Autry once again.
