Weapons
Most of the weapons in Prey are completely organic or have been modified with alien technology. There is no reloading, but most weapons will overheat, so use burst tactics whenever possible. Also, each weapon has a primary and secondary attack that varies in strength and function.
Weapons |
Primary Attack |
Secondary Attack |
Wrench: The first weapon you will receive in Prey. Great for close combat with weaker enemies, but becomes useless once you pick up a gun. ![]() |
Quick swings from left to right. Damage: Low |
The wrench is lifted high above Tommy's head coming down with mighty force. Damage: Medium |
Rifle: Carried by the Hunters, the Rifle is the most used weapon in the game. Ammo is plentiful and it comes equipped with a wicked sniper rifle. ![]() |
A rapid-fire stream of bullets escapes the barrel of the gun. This gun will overheat and the rate of fire will slow until you let it cool. Damage: Low |
Sniper Rifle: The great thing about Prey is you will receive a sniper rifle very early in the game. There is adjustable zoom options and a red laser to help guide your aim. Damage: High |
Grenades: At first you may wonder what this four-legged creature is, but each appendage is actually an explosive device. ![]() |
A standard frag grenade with a beeper to alert you before it explodes. Damage: High |
Flipping the creature over will give you a sticky grenade similar to Halo as well as proximity detection. Damage: High |
Leech Gun: Quite possibly the coolest weapon in the game due to its ability to yield four different types of ammunition, which are Plasma, Ice, Lightning, and Sun Beam. Search for Leech Energy Nodes to find the type of ammunition that suits the current situation best. ![]() |
Fires the four different types of ammunition. |
Used to Leech ammunition from Leech Energy Nodes. |
Acid Gun: Similar to bug spray, this gun carries a canister of yellow acid that when spewed onto an enemy begins to eat away at their flesh. ![]() |
This attack acts like a conventional first-person shooter shotgun. Yellow acid is pumped through the chamber to release a small amount of acid mist. Very dangerous at close range. Damage: High |
Why use a pinch of acid when you can fire the entire canister? The canister is ejected from the gun's chamber acting much like a grenade launcher, but the reload time is very slow. Damage: High |
Mini-Gattling Gun: This weapon is part human, part alien. The primary fire will release a barrage of bullets faster and more powerful than the standard rifle and the secondary fire is similar to the Flak Cannon in Unreal Tournament. ![]() | Just like a gattling gun, the barrel will spin with screaming delight as a powerful onslaught of bullets are released at high velocity. Careful, this gun overheats quickly and will leave you sitting like a duck. Damage: Medium |
When fired, a large ball is emitted from the snout-like appendage and at first contact explodes like a bouncing betty, firing shards of metal in every direction. Very similar to Unreal Tournament's Flak Cannon. Damage: High |
Crawler Launcher: What is an FPS game without a rocket launcher? However, this baby has something other launchers don't have -- a defense mechanism. ![]() |
Launches your standard rocket in the direction at which you aimed. Damage: High |
The beauty of this attack is it's not an attack at all. The weapon releases an impenetrable cloud of gas that acts a shield. |
Enemies
Fodder: The first creature you will run across in Prey is the Fodder. Watch carefully as eggs are ejected from the walls and out hatches the Fodder. Annoying and weak, they are easily disposed of with either Wrench or Rifle. |
![]() |
Hunter: The standard grunt of Prey. Easy to handle, but deadly in numbers. There are two different types of grunt, rifle men and snipers. If you see a red laser pointed at your head, duck. Any weapon in the game will take down the hunters rather quickly, just don't miss. |
![]() |
Hound: The hounds may seem cute at first crawling around like a cute puppy, but once they stand up they will release of barrage of powerful swings disorienting your view and delivering high amounts of damage. |
![]() |
Drone: The drones are pester some, and luckily only encountered for a short portion of the game. They are quick and difficult to find. Use the rockets on the flying exoskeleton to rid yourself of these irritating Matrix sentinel look-alikes. |
![]() |
Flying Mutated: Usually encountered alongside Drones, these flying creatures are slow, but deadly. The flying exoskeleton's rockets are the safest way to take on these ugly beasts. |
![]() |
Creeper: Possibly the most irritating enemy in the entire game, the Creepers have multiple attacks and they're not ashamed to run and hide. Certain weapons are useless against the Creepers as they will release an impenetrable cloud of gas in defense. If you are lucky enough to kill a Creeper before it escapes into the disgusting red slits in the walls, the upper body will detach from the legs crawling after you like a deranged ankle biter. |
![]() |
Mutate: Half human, half alien, the Mutate may look fat and slow, but its alien mutations make it a rather nimble opponent. When it charges, strafe quickly out of the way or you will be impaled by its giant claw appendage. These guys don't go down easily so be prepared for a fight. |
![]() |
Centurion: Large and in charge, the Centurion wield dual machine gun turrets mounted to each arm. They don't move around too much, but their sheer size is intimidating enough. Strafe from cover to cover while unloading your heaviest artillery if you want to tackle this foe. |
