15 Retro Games for the Wii You Must Play

Most Wanted!
But wait, there's more! Sure, we all have our favorite retro titles that we'd love to play, but here are some standout selections that simply must be made available.

ActRaiser (Enix/SNES)
Originally Released in 1991

A generous mix of role-playing and action, you play the role of a god. Watching from your heavenly abode, you build cities from a bird's eye view, and venture down to the surface to destroy monsters. Yuzo Koshiro now classic music score is one of ActRaiser's many assets.

Battletoads (Tradewest/Genesis, NES)
Originally Released in 1991

Battletoads is notorious for its steep difficulty, but the highlight is the titular characters themselves. Essentially one-toad wrecking crews, Rash and Zitz are imbued with hilarious animation (when they would headbutt an enemy, for instance, they'd sprout ram-like horns). But beat-em-up isn't the only mechanic at play herethere are also driving and timing challenges.

Contra III: The Alien Wars (Konami/SNES)
Originally Released in 1992

The last great contra game still delivers pulse pounding wall-to-wall action. As one of two soldiers trying to destroy alien invaders, Contra III's diverse stages have you doing everything from blasting enemies, to scaling buildings, and even hopping between missiles in this mother of all wild rides.

Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (Konami/PC Engine Duo)
Originally Released in 1993

We'd love to see all Castlevania games available, but this one is considered the best and it never came to the U.S. Playing as Richter Belmont or Maria Renard (a little girl who attacks with doves and kittens), you take a non-linear path to Dracula's castle. Castlevania: Dracula X for the SNES is the politically-correct and watered-down version of Rondo.
