Chrono Cross Boss Guide - Fate

Fate
HP: 5000
Element: Black
Spoils: Magic Shield (100%)
Gold: 2457

Fate is another strong boss you will need a lot of preparation for. Bring a party of strong White innate characters and make sure to stock up on HealAll, CureAll and RecoverAll Elements. In the opening rounds Fate will cast, attack, and then cast again. Between the two Elements it is possible to turn the field White and squeeze a Saints spell in if you're completely prepared. If you manage to cast Saints, you're looking at a fairly easy fight. If not, Fate should begin the countdown sequence soon. Fate counts down from five before releasing its ultimate attack, DarkEnergy, when it hits zero. During the countdown it will be impossible to get a pure white field since Fate is continuously casting Black Elements. Fate casts in the following order:

5 - Diminish
4 - Gravitonne
3 - HeatRay
2 - FreeFall
1 - GravityBlow
0 - DarkEnergy

During this barrage, you will need to use a lot of healing Elements and physical attacks. You can use this predictability to your advantage. Bring a Black innate character and let Fate do the fieldwork for you. First, cast Trap FreeFall and save yourself some pain. Then, continue to cast Black Elements until you are able to summon GrimReaper and MotherShip! Fate isn't an advanced innate, so these will hurt. If you haven't killed Fate yet and you're facing DarkEnergy, make sure to use a bunch of RecoverAll Elements before Fate casts it to keep the field as White as possible.
