Top 20 Must-Play Quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

The Arena

Why it's great: Best Melee Challenge
Prize: Fame, Money, and a Weird Little Boy Follows You

Essentially one giant quest, with multiple little parts, the Arena is perfect for all those seeking a little challenge and some extra dough. All you got to do is wander down into the blood works, talk to the man in charge, and you're good to go. The only downside is you can't loot your opponents, which is sad because most of them are running with some excellent equipment. That all changes in the final match though (the looting part, not the excellent equipment part), vs. the legendary Grey Prince. There are two ways to finish this and I have to say that it really only feels worth it if you opt out of the Grey Prince's side quest. If you're going to be champion of the Arena, you should take it in a fair fight. Granted I'm speaking almost purely from a shear challenge perspective.

Vampire Cure

Why it's great: Vampires, like drugs, aren't nearly as cool as they sound.
Prize: Cure for Vampirism

So let's face it, you got pissed at Count Hassildor, and tried to kill him, now you're infected with Vampirism and no chapel will touch you. What to do, what to do? Lucky for you there is a cure, unlucky for you it takes for freaking ever, but to be honest anything that allows you to walk in daylight again is probably worth it at this point. If you're in the Dark Brotherhood and haven't killed the poor fool talk to our pal Vicente, he knows a guy who knows a guy, otherwise talk to a chapel priest. Three contacts later you finally find the person who knows how to get things done. In exchange for what are easily the most difficult and annoying retrieval quests in the game she'll hook you up with a cure, which is arguably the greatest quest reward in the game.

Whodunit

Why it's great: Scary Movie 17.5
Prize: Sweet House, Night Mother's Blessing

The seventh official Dark Brotherhood quest, given to you by Ocheeva. You know those movies where people are suppose to spend the night in the house and if they survive they get tons of money? This is kind of like that but your job is making sure no one survives. Sounds fun doesn't it. Lots of different techniques to make it through this one, from a straight up slaughter fest to a tactful divide and conquer type of maneuver. If you're really good you can even get the other party guests to help with the killing. The reward is two fold, you'll get a blessing that increases skills and you'll get the house, only fitting since you did survive the night there.

The Purification

Why it's great: Murderers are Traitors
Prize: Black Invincible Horse (Shadowmare)

Ninth in the Dark Brotherhood line and first official quest from Lucien is The Purification. This quest demonstrates the efficiency of the Dark Brotherhood and helps explain how they manage to stay so secret. Hopefully you haven't grown too fond of your fellow murderers because you need to kill them, all of them. One is a traitor, but we don't know who, so in the grand tradition of covering your ass you're just going to wipe them all out. Don't worry though in exchange you get a really sweet looking horse, the Shadowmare. And in a few more quests the Cheydinhal sanctuary will be swelling with new recruits once more, apparently there are a lot of murderers in Cyrodiil.

A Brush with Death

Why it's great: Turpentine kills more than just brain cells
Prize: Enchanted Smock (Apron of Adroitness)

Time for another stroll into the bizarre. In Cheydinhal a great painter is missing, disappeared from inside his locked studio, but to where? Well, into his artwork of course. Jump on in there and experience perhaps the strangest landscape you can come across in game, complete with painted trees, rocks, trolls...very resilient and deadly trolls. While magic, blunt, and blade don't have that great of an effect, turpentine does. You'll get six bottles of it from the painter and you'll probably end up using most of them. Be sure to loot the corpses for the ultra rare painted troll fat. The reward is substandard but you're doing this quest for the experience, so enjoy the trip.
