GP: Is there any conflict between combining Toriyama's Dragon Ball Z universe with the Dragon Ball GT universe? Some fans prefer one series over the other. How did you entertain the older fans while still pleasing the younger?
RM: This title contains characters from the entire Dragon Ball franchise, such as the original manga, the DBZ movies and Dragon Ball GT. We've included characters from each series, so in that respect, fans will be able to pick their favorite character from a selection of over 100 in all.
GP: In this sequel, what main gameplay features would you like to emphasize? What does this game do better than its predecessor and competition?
RM: This game will send players into a rich story mode. Players can have DBZ experiences throughout the game play. The story mode will be totally different from the previous game.
GP: The previous Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi game offered a lot of new gameplay changes from the previous Budokai titles. Some were greeted openly positive, while others were criticized. What have you done to fix some of the weaker features (camera system, and in-game transformations)?
RM: We've worked on the camera angles-as there was a strong request for it from the players of Tenkaichi- and we've also implemented an in-battle transformation system. Additionally, we have improved the battle system by adding various combos, and have enhanced the super-move scenes.
GP: Any news about the Nintendo Wii's (formerly known as the Nintendo Revolution) gameplay controls? What is the design philosophy behind the controls and how will the PS2 version be different than the Wii's?
RM: The basic game mode will be the same but the Nintendo game will take advantage of the unique game controller system featured with the Nintendo Wii to deliver a completely new DBZ fighting experience. Players will be able to attack with the "Game Remote Controller" and move characters as they like, using the controller almost as if it were a "Nunchaku." These controllers make Dragon Ball battles even more dramatic and exciting than ever before. To do a smash attack, for instance, hold down the attack button and swing the Game Remote Controller. To do a Kamehameha, twist and stab the Game Remote Controller with holding Ki button. It's just like being in the TV show.
