SmackDown FAQ

Judging by the amount of email we receive, a lot of you have questions about SmackDown!.

Judging by the amount of email we receive, a lot of you have questions about SmackDown! We handed all the questions to the WWF SmackDown! World Heavyweight Champion, D-Pad Destroyer, and asked him to answer the ones most frequently asked.

  1. Does Smackdown control more like WWF Attitude, or like Wrestlemania 2000?

  2. SmackDown! works more like W2000, in that it's easy to play. The commands are laid out a bit differently, but if you've played W2000 you won't have too much trouble.
  3. Can you make SmackDown! for (insert platform here)?

  4. Okay, I'll only say this once: GamePro does NOT make the games! Nor can we send you free games, free Dreamcasts or free lunch. What we can do is pass the info on to the companies that you'd like to see SmackDown! on the N64/Dreamcast, but it's up to THQ or whomever to actually make the games. As of now, there are no plans for a SmackDown! on Dreamcast, but you can almost bet that it won't be THQ's last console WWF game.
  5. Are Rikishi/Too Cool/Tazz/Kurt Angle/Other WWF Superstar in the game?

  6. No, Too Cool aren't there, and neither is Rikishi or his ass. Tazz isn't there, either. You'll also not see Shawn Michaels, and Cactus Jack is still Mankind in the game. But hey, Undertaker and Stone Cold are in SmackDown!, so it's not all bad, and those of you who need an ECW fix can spot the Dudley Boyz in SmackDown!. To be honest, the line-up had to be finalized at some point, and that means the more recent arrivals, particularly the "Radicals," didn't make the deadline.
  7. How much blood will you see when you use a weapon?

  8. No blood. None. Well, at least none that I've seen. Trust me, though? the smack gets delivered hard enough. Buy ECW Hardcore Revolution if you want to see blood.
  9. Can you go anywhere backstage, or is it just one area?

  10. You have five areas to fight in: the ramp, the hallway (which leads to the remaining three areas), the kitchen, the boiler room, and the garage. To get to each area, just Irish Whip your opponent through the right doors.
  11. Do the wrestlers talk?

  12. Nope. No one actually speaks. All dialog shows up as text. Personally, I'd rather see more wrestlers and more options than have them use all the storage space on the CD for speech. But that's just me.
  13. Do they walk to the ring in their entrances?

  14. The entrances are quite cool; the wrestlers' Titantron video plays, with the right entrance music, and then the wrestler appears in front of the video, poses a bit and walks. He never actually walks to the ring, though.
  15. What different arenas and rings are there?

  16. There are three arenas and ten mats, which you can use to create SmackDown!, Raw Is War, Heat, Wrestlemania, King of the Ring, Summer Slam, Survivor Series, and Royal Rumble. You're also given blank mats you can use for your own created Pay-Per-Views; you can't write the name of your show on them, but at least D-Pad Fest 2000's mat won't say Summer Slam on it.
  17. What weapons are there?

  18. We've seen hammers, chairs, tables, microphones, Al Snow's "Head", gurneys, coffins, 2-by-4s, fire extinguishers, and more. During my fight for the title, I even picked up the little stepladder that you use to enter the ring, tossed it into the ring and beat Road Dogg down with it.
  19. Is there a ladder match/Hell in the Cell/Street Fight/Coffin/Cemetery/whatever match?

  20. You can do Hardcore, Cage matches, Anywhere Fall, Battle Royal, King of the Ring, Handicap (2- or 3-on-1), and more. There are no ladder, coffin, street fight, or Hell in the Cell matches.
  21. Do the wrestlers each have their own locker room?

  22. You're limited to the backstage areas mentioned above. If you want to pretend your guy has his own dressing room, feel free to do so, but it won't appear in the game.
  23. How do you change stables?

  24. You don't. In Pre-Season mode, you'll be given choices as to different ways to react to different characters. For example, I was asked by Big Bossman to beat up Big Show, and I did. As a result, Bossman liked me, while Big Show hated me. Of course, I ended up being on a tag-team with Big Show twice, so who knows what was going on there?
  25. What is the release date/suggested retail price?

  26. If you go to your local retail outlet, you should be able to buy SmackDown on March 2nd, for around $44.99.
