The Halo 2 Weapon Compendium -- Page 4

Other Essential Tactics
It's not enough to know the best weapons and combos in Halo 2. To truly reign supreme on Xbox Live, be sure you understand the following concepts.

Dual-Wielding
Two guns are better than one, right? Not necessarily. Holding two guns at once (hereafter referred to as dual-wielding) means you can't throw grenades. And it's not always smart to fire both guns at once, as it drastically affects your accuracy.

Grenades
Yes, Plasma grenades are sticky and Fragmentation grenades are bouncy. But more importantly, the key to understanding the tactical advantage of grenades is simple: they control your enemy's movement. With a carefully-timed grenade, you can easily drive a foe away; just throw the grenade in front of him. But you can also push him toward you (and into your Shotgun) by throwing a grenade so it lands behind him. Most crucially, you can throw a grenade into a doorway--it'll buy you enough time to recharge your shields.

Melee
Don't be afraid to whack enemies who stray too close; the Brute Shot and Rocket Launcher both inflict extra hand-to-hand damage, so that should factor into your strategies. It only takes one blow to kill an unshielded opponent, or one with his back to you. But dual-wielders should take care, as a Melee attack will cause you to drop your left-handed weapon.

Reloading It's important to reload frequently, even if you've got plenty of ammo left in your clip. But know that certain weapons (particularly the SMG and Magnum) take extra time to reload, so that's something to consider if you're in the middle of a raging firefight. That's one of the main advantages of the Plasma weapons, which don't need to be reloaded.

Last, But Surely Not Least...
Did you know you can shoot yourself in the foot? No, really...
