An exclusive look at the original Dororo manga which was the basis for the game Blood WIll Tell.
Segas Blood Will Tell is based on the Dororo manga by Osamu Tezuka. Tezuka is best known to U.S. readers as the creator of the classic anime series Astro Boy which has also been turned into a game by Sega. Both the game and the manga tell the story of Hyakki, a warrior who had his body parts removed and replaced by weapons when he was new born baby. On a quest to restore his body, Hykki encounters Dororo, a young child who becomes enthralled by Hykkis fighting style.
The following pages are excerpted from the original manga and detail the first encounter between Hykki and Dororo. Unlike American books, Japanese publications are read right to left -- in order to properly understand the story you should read the panels in the same way. They are numbered for your convenience.
The manga was translated from Japanese to English by Yuji Oniki.
And now, an introduction from Tezuka Productions:
To our Readers:
In the works of Mr. Osamu Tezuka, people from various countries and times appear. It has been pointed out recently that this comic is expressed as barbarous and savage, or that it could be depicted as discrimination because of stereotypical manners and prejudice of the time period. At the time this work was released, we do not think the readers as well as the author had a sense of discrimination. We must listen to their voice seriously, as long as some people today find descriptions like these to be discriminative. While we respect the authors original work and introduce it as it is, we would like to ask you readers to deepen your understanding toward discrimination that we are apt to overlook. The original Dororo was first published on the BOUKEN-OU Magazine, May - Oct issues, 1969.
Thank you, Tezuka Productions / Sega
