LOTR: The Return of the King - Path of the Wizard

If you want to beat Sauron and his army of orcs, trolls, and monsters, your thumbs better be in great shape. Here?s how to save Middle-Earth from beginning to end.

The Adventure Begins
The Return of the King is broken down into three paths. You can choose to play levels in sequence along any one of them or play a level along each path one at a time. You have to play all three to open up the final level. This ProStrategy Guide takes you along each path individually.

Note: This ProStrategy guide applies to PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox as well.
The Path of the Wizard

Helm?s Deep

Return of the King kicks off at Helm?s Deep. Although you play Gandalf, this is a basic training level that relates to all the characters. There are four key lessons to be learned here that set the tone for your battles to come.
Practice the Parry move. Later against some foes, you must parry to block their attacks until they let up and you can get in your licks. Parries also block orc arrows.
The Fierce Attack destroys shields. Each character?s Fierce is different, but there?s major shield-bustin? ahead of you so play now or pay later.
Master the Ranged Attack. Accurate and quick Ranged attacks at close and long ranges will be key to some levels. Learn to hold the Ranged Attack button and quickly find your targets. Also, if you hold the Ranged Attack button, you can tap the Parry button to block any enemy projectiles and then just hit the Speed Attack button to instantly snap off a few arrows of your own. Remember this key maneuver!
Don?t overlook Action items. These various objects (designated by a glowing ring) have varying degrees of usefulness, but sometimes they are critical, such as the ballistas (large, mounted crossbows) here in Helm?s Deep. In some instances, too, you can by-pass hand-to-hand combat and head straight to the Action items.
