GamePro?s Gift Guide 2003: Gifts Over $100

If you?ve got a big budget, try out some hardcore DDR gear, home theater equipment, or?bikinis?!

Tecmo Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Bikinis
Not a dream-not a joke-not cheap! Designed by Team Ninja and manufactured in Japan, real-life versions of the Lamina, Kepheus, Amaterasu, and Asterope swimsuits as seen in DOAX are now available for you to buy. They?re extremely limited editions, and they?re only available from Tecmo?s website. Collectors will likely snap these up fast, leaving everyone else to scour online auctions for them at even higher prices in just a few months. Get two-one to sell on eBay and one to give to your unsuspecting girlfriend or wife. Suffice it to say that it?s the gift you give yourself. And hey-she said she likes surprises, right? $149.99 | Tecmo Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball Bikinis | 323.234.9911 | tecmoinc.com

RedOctane Metal Pads
If you?re serious about Dance Dance Revolution (or find yourself shopping for someone who is), RedOctane?s dance pads are the best on the market. The Ignition Pad 2.0 upped the ante on vinyl dance mats with its jigsaw-puzzle-like removable stiff foam core and arcade-sized triggers (at $100, it?s worth every cent), but the company?s new Metal Pad is as close to the arcade experience as any home gamer could hope to find. Small LEDs light up on the edges of the arrows with each step, and with a non-slip foam bottom and a 40-pound heavy steel frame, this baby ain?t going anywhere when you stomp on it. The tethered control box leads out to a PS2 plug, but the unit was designed with future Xbox compatibility in mind, too-why buy an all-new pad when all you?ll have to do is plug in a different front end for this one? The price might seem steep, but your only other option anywhere near RedOctane in terms of quality, feel, and performance is a real DDR machine-and if you have $7000 to spend on one, hey, enjoy. Otherwise, seek this out.

Kenwood HTB-506 Home Theater SystemSP
More games are utilizing surround sound, and the HTB-506 is a more than ample mouthpiece for games with multi-channel audio tracks. Complete with 6.1-channel surround, DTS, Dolby Digital, and Dolby Pro Logic II on board (as well as optical audio inputs), titles like Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on the PlayStation 2 and Burnout 2: Point of Impact on the Xbox are strikingly brought to life, as are DVD movies (just check out any musical number from Chicago or the opening sequence from Saving Private Ryan in DTS). Anyone wishing to make a game experience more immersive will be well served by this theater-in-a-box sound system. And it?s pricey, but hey-you get what you pay for.
