Panzer Dragoon Orta (Episode 10: Abadd)

Form 1:
Ah, the final boss. Unsurprisingly, you?ll have to beat him more than once, with each form more difficult than the last.

The part-porcupine, part-egg form is the easiest. Stay to the front or to the sides, and keep using your lock-ons to reveal its weak spots and pound on them. The belt of polygons around Abadd will deflect normal bullets, so avoid using Glide mode to attack this form.

First, the boss will summon a group of lasers, which will flash green just before they fire. Wait until you see that flash, then Glide out of the way. Gliding too early or too late will cost you health, so make sure to time it correctly.

After that set of attacks, the belt of polygons will start firing lasers in a circular pattern. It?s very difficult to outrun, so position yourself in between the laser beams?or just use the Berserk you?ve built up from pounding on the boss.

Then, the belt of polygons will spawn a halo of projectiles, which will slowly come your way.

Switch to Glide more here and shoot down every one, making sure that you don?t lock on to the bullet-reflecting ring by mistake.

Form 2:

Abadd?s new and improved dragonmare starts off the fight by diving into the water repeatedly. Heavy Wing?s lock-ons are far too slow to hit him before he dives back in, so rely on Base Wing, and fire your lock-ons when he?s at the apex of his jump.

After a few hops, Abadd will sneak into the side of the level and shoot gigantic lasers at you. At the first hint of green light, glide in the opposite direction. He?ll do it twice, so make sure not to waste any glide beforehand.

Flying in front of you, he will attempt to whip you with his tail. Stay to the right, and then move in a simple left-right-left-right pattern to avoid the tail.

Next comes the single most difficult attack to dodge in the game. Lock on to his body (NOT, repeat, NOT his wings) and do NOT release the A button. Wait for the green flash to appear around your dragon.

The moment the green flash ends, release the A button. The locks on the dragonmare?s body (and only the body?thus the warning about the wings) will transfer to the purple lasers, shooting them down and avoiding damage. Any mistakes will lead to crippling damage, so be very careful at this point. Warning: A badly timed Berserk will leave you unprepared for the next volley of lasers, costing you more health than you can afford. Save your berserk for when you truly need it.

After a long period of allowing you to deal damage to him, Abadd will withdraw into the foreground. Using Glide mode, make the same broad, circular motion that you used to avoid similar attacks, and you should come out unscathed.

The dragonmare will return to its dolphin ways, leaping in and out of the ?water? and slowly approaching you. On the third jump, glide forward to avoid his bite.

Finally, it will swim and expose only its wings, hoping you will run into them. Beat on the wings with Heavy mode, then quickly switch into Glide mode and glide through the wings to avoid clipping your own. From here, the dragon?s patterns repeat.

Form 3:

Do you remember that annoying segment of the last form, with the purple lasers and green flash? Well, the wingless version starts off with that same attack.

As before, lock onto the body, and wait until the green flash stops before firing.

Watch out for the boss? tricky movement patterns. It will be difficult to maintain enough locks on the boss to destroy all of the lasers, but it?s vital to your continued survival.

Just when you think you?re safe from the lasers, he will try to ram you after a long period of complacency. As before, glide forward before it can come from behind.

Keep locking on and firing, and congratulations! You?ve just beaten Panzer Dragoon Orta. Enjoy the brief ending, make sure to stay after the credits, and then try for the coveted Winged Death rank, which requires a 100% shot-down ratio on Hard mode.
