Patrick counts down the 7 best video games you need to get ready for Halloween, with zombies and gore galore!
Halloween is about to rear its delightfully grotesque head, and no one's more pumped up for the morbid holiday than GamePro's horror-obsessed editor Patrick Shaw. Here, he discusses which horror-themed games you should be playing, and what new titles are worth looking forward to this Holiday season.
#7. Saw
Xbox 360, PS3, PCAvailable: NOW
3 Reasons to Care:
In many ways, Saw is this generation's A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th. Even if the quality of each installment is getting progressively worse, it still has some redeeming qualities for horror fans, like buckets of blood and guts, and torture traps that only get more barbarous and bizarre as the series continues.
Konami's video game adaptation of the grisly franchise, is something of a step above its film counterparts. GamePro's Heather Bartron, who's also a big horror fan, reviewed the game and noted that the Saw game is a near-perfect adaptation of the franchise and has some puzzles that "are enough to make your heart explode," which is all the praise any Saw fan should need to pick up and play this flawed but fun game.
CHECK IT OUT: Heather's review of Saw.

I'm playing SAW right now, and some of the puzzles definitely are nerve wracking, but not scary. I just am praying that the new Silent Hill remake/reboot (whatever the hell it is) is atmospheric by today's standards, I really hope the Wii is up to the challange. Cursed Mountain was also a bit on the creepy side... I got Dead Space:Extraction and I'm sorry but rail shooters don't hold my interest, I'll give it another go soon enough. We need to make the distinction between bloody/gory and creepy/scary. Most of these games have a few scares but aren't gonna give you nightmares, more blood then anything else.
Not many new games are "creepy", at least not Eternal Darkness creepy. Alan Wake has the potential to be creepy because it's a dark story driven game. A great game that goes under the radar with the "creep factor" is Siren: Blood Curse... man that game is f****d.
I'm still waiting for some old school story driven horror games that used to be all over the PC... I miss them.

Not a bad list. I though JU-ON: The Grudge would've been on it though considering you recently had a story on it and it's actually a game that is truly trying to scare you. Some of the games are good for the blood and gore, but they aren't really scary and I think many of us can agree on that. In JU-ON, there are no weapons, just a flashlight from what I've learned and your courage to walk through the insane darkness of 5 or so buildings. It looks really fun to me and I can't wait for it to come out since I'm a huuuuge horror junkie. Currently playing the first Fatal Frame. I wish 4 would've came out definitely.

I am sorry but this list is just pretty much FAIL! How can you recommend games to play for Halloween when they aren't even out? I know I am not stupid enough to assume you are getting PAID to promote these games, but you could at least be like, "play Silent Hill: Homecoming since it is scary and in anticipation for Silent Hill on the Wii" or "Alien Vs Predator on PC was one the scariest experiences still to this day, get on that while you wait for the new one that hopefully won't suck." Paraphrasing of course!
The reason I saw that is cause everyone of those games that aren't out now is a SEQUEL. As this stands, this is pretty misleading. This isn't a list of games to play for Halloween but a list of games to wait for for next Halloween. Sure you briefly touch on it in the intro but when majority of the games you list aren't out, it makes it seem like a crummy holiday this year.
And BioShock is not scaring, just generic.
