All this talk of Bungie reworking their successful Spartan-fueled formula to introduce such changes as open-worlds, film noir storytelling, and protagonists not named Master Chief may have fans of the franchise a bit skeptical but fear not Cortana-worshiping friends because Halo 3: ODST is still 100% premium grade Halo.
Here are five reasons why even Chief's most stalwart supporters will love this latest chapter in the epic sci-fi shooter series.
They may not have the star power of Master Chief but the ODST isn't made up of a bunch of scrubs.
No Chief, No Problem
Sure, we miss the big green lug, but ODST'S band of fighters not only look similar to the series' iconic ass-kicker, they stack Covenant corpses with near identical strategy and style.
So, while you may have to seek out the occasional health pack to keep your pulse pounding-ODST's only have partial regeneration power-the weapons and vehicles feel as good as they do under Chief's tight Spartan grip. All that, and these new recruits also add plenty of fresh story-driving elements to our beloved universe.
We love the suppressed Magnum but old favorites like the Spartan laser make a triumphant return.
Familiar Firearm
While you'll squeeze the triggers of many classic Halo weapons-both UNSC and Covenant-one in particular will stretch a smile across Halo: Combat Evolved vet's faces.
The suppressed Magnum is not only ODST's quiet life-siphoner, but one that's an obvious throwback to Chief's fan favorite Covenant-killer from his Xbox debut. Like his small but oh-so-powerful pistol, ODST's version can be zoomed in for some unbelievably precise kills. Hell, we scored more head-shots with the Magnum than with the sniper rifle!
There's a strong focus on vehicles in ODST and trust us, that's a good thing.
Let's Ride!
The only thing more satisfying than capping a Grunt is running one down in a Warthog. Listening to those little bastards shriek under the mud-kickin' tires of your green beast never gets old, and ODST delivers plenty of vehicle-based melees.
An especially cool sequence has you tearing through New Mombasa's zoo, taking out any Covenant scum that cross your path. And when you're not using your ride to paint the pavement with alien innards, you'll be pinning the pedal to the metal in some amazing break-neck missions.
We won't spoil them for you, but let's just say a race down a Mombasa highway-riddled with war torn debris and crawling with determined Covenant-makes previous such Halo levels look like driver's ed class.

Milk Machine is back! Seriously, I know some hardcore Halo fans that no doubt got this game when it came out. I like Halo, but this stuff is getting too far. Keep in mind its "Halo 3":ODST. So pretty much a $60 expansion to Halo 3.

It's not really the hardcore Halo fans that you have to convince, it's the casual Halo fans that need convincing.
Chances are, most big Halo fans already have, or are planning to get ODST.

I don't like running out of ammo so easy, and having to settle for weak weapons. I'd rather run and gun, than tip-toe around. Not planning on getting it.

yeah right... I'm sorry but halo odst is very boring and short. I finished it in 4 hours with my brother. And I say it's boring because you almost never fight; there are many times on where you are just walking, and that's it!!!! Besides, you get to fight THE SAME BAD GUYS you've been fighting since halo 1, with the same weapons!!!!!!!!!! It's not worth $60 at all, $25 at the least.
