GamePro's Ultimate Game Room
- July 13, 2009 00:00 AM PST
GamePro designs the definitive place to relax and play!
Having a killer gaming setup is critical to getting the most out of your games. But far too often, gamers focus on the obvious things and over look the little details; sure, you've got a badass HDTV but if you stop there, it's like building a car and surrounding your expensive hand-built engine with rusted parts from the junkyard. To truly maximize your gaming experience, you need to go the extra mile and address not just what's in front of you but what's around you. The GamePros aren't immune to laziness however: we recently took a careful survey of our own game room and we realized that it could use some key upgrades as well. What you'll see in the pages to come is a list of improvements that we plan on making in the near future. Some of the products we've already set into place; others aren't too far off. Eventually, we will realize our goal of creating a dream space to game in.
Because we were striving for an Ultimate Game Room, we did not factor in price when choosing our items; we pretended that our last name was Hilton (she's still relevant these days, right?) and threw cost out the window. But considering the current economic climate, we recognize that people can't simply open up their wallets and spend, spend, spend; this is why we're also including a budget option for each category. They may not be as luxurious but they'll still add a crucial layer of awesomeness to your gaming experience.
After you read our dream list, take a close look at your game room and think about how you might improve it. Consider our suggestions but even if you don't, try and make some sort of improvement. Do so and the end result will be clear: you will have more fun with your games and isn't that what it's all about?

I've got a bunch of video game posters for the ambiance, consoles ranging from the 2600 to the PS3, and some good sound. I just need an HD set. As far as sittin' equipment goes, a couple of old recliners and couch is good enough for me.

Mini-fridge... nice! That would be a great addition to my game room. The fridge in the kitchen is probably 10 steps away, but that's 10 too many, now that I think about it!
Budget OptionUse your existing vaccum every now and again. Yeah, it's a pain in the butt but you have to clean your game room or no one, including yourself, will want to hang out in there for long.
Just attach a Wii-mote to the handle and pretend you're playing cleaning mama!

Best television I have found as yet.
As far as I know it IS the best, but suggested retail price is 7000$ So, good luck in this economy!

every time gamepro makes a list like this one, they tell you to buy the most expensive items, and that's not always the best choice... also, a mini fridge, a vacuum, a special chair, etc just for gaming????? c'mon! I love videogames, but there's more to life than just tv...

Just curious as to why they would choose a decent TV over an amazing TV when price isn't an issue...?!? LCD still has nothing on this Plasma TV.

If you notice, we also suggest budget options for each category. We recognize that a mini-fridge, Roomba and special chairs aren't in everyone's budget. Which is why we also suggest cheaper alternatives.
