UFC 2009 Undisputed vs. Fight Night Round 4
- July 10, 2009 00:00 AM PST
UFC 100 is just mere hours away, so we couldn't resist pitting these two heavyweights against each other for an impromptu superfight. Who will win? UFC 2009 Undisputed's gritty realism or Fight Night Round 4's ringside razzle dazzle?
It's an incredible understatement to say that UFC 2009 Undisputed has taken the world by storm. Last May, people who didn't know the difference between an armbar and a kimura submission picked up the game at a monstrous pace. Right out of the gate, THQ and Yuke's Osaka have been selling their mixed martial arts masterpiece like wildfire. Can you say "one million copies in one month?" Even today, GamePro's editorial staff is still playing UFC 2009 Undisputed in an endless cycle of grudge matches, with plenty of cursing, screaming and yelling.
In fact, UFC 2009 has been so successful, it almost blew Fight Night Round 4 under the radar. Fortunately, EA Sports (and developer EA Canada) haven't forgotten how to make an addictive boxing game, with new features and gameplay mechanics that are sure to have gamers running right back to the squared circle. While Fight Night Round 3 was clearly one of the most visually superior games of its time, the next-generation console rush has put the old boxing champ up against some stiff competition.
Sure, 2009 has proven to be a great year for fighting fans, so we can't resist pitting these two brawlers against each other for one massive heavyweight superfight. UFC 2009 Undisputed and Fight Night Round 4 have both scored well with GamePro, each one earning an Editor's Choice Award (read the reviews here and here), but which one is the reigning champ? Does UFC's gritty realism and vicious ground-and-pound put it over Fight Night's deep career and improved pedigree?

Round 1: Graphics
In crisp HD, any match in UFC 2009 looks like a real life Pay-Per-View.
UFC 2009 Undisputed
UFC 2009 Undisputed looks so incredible that it's impossible to think another game predated it. Going from 2004's Sudden Impact to 2009's Undisputed is like switching from dating your high school girlfriend to making out with Megan Fox and Scarlett Johanson -- at the same time. With Angelina Jolie rubbing your feet. There's just no comparison. Yuke's Osaka and THQ put a ton of effort into creating everything in UFC 2009 from scratch, especially the fighters. Just play one match and see Lyoto Machida cut Tito Ortiz's face. It looks so real that it hurts.
The rule is FIght Night is that *everything* shines, from blood and sweat to the laces on a boxer's boots.
Fight Night Round 4
As a testament to its history, Fight Night Round 4 definitely brings style and presentation to the ring with the series' latest effort. Boxers are incredibly well polished, from the sweat on their brow to the ruffles on their shorts. Even everything outside the ring looks stunning, as the crowd will react with every knockdown, while photographers and ringside staff will greatly spruce up your TV screen. Heck, even the framerate is something to be impressed with, considering all the background eye candy. Add in the customizable ring attire and entrance animations, and every fight in Round 4 feels like a world championship bout.
THE WINNER: TIE
Inside the Octagon, UFC 2009 shines beyond any other game with real-to-life animations and photorealistic fighters, referees and ring girls (even Features Editor Patrick Shaw loves the brutal cuts and violence). Fight Night Round 4 is no slouch either, backed by impressive physics with crowds and venues that swell with the life of a real stadium. Both fighters have some of the best graphics we've seen this year, but this round's a draw.

I would've picked UFC hands down without even comparing the two...there is no need. UFC is better on all levels (my opinion)....Also Shizammaster, I agree. GO FRANK MIR!

I'm gonna go with UFC since you can take part in ppv events (like tonights Frank mir vs lesnar match) and rewrite the outcome of the fights involved.
Plus to be honest i wanna take on the actual ufc fighters online lol. even if it's rampage jackson (who i heard is a gamer himself)
Oh! and i hope Mir beats lesnar and wins the title.

Hands down UFC. dont get me wrong I like FN4, but!
EA never gives gammers a complete sports game.
There should be 20 to 25 heavyweights old and new in FN4. EA did not even give us a good 10 heavyweights.
All EA gave us was Tyson and yes that was good but thats all they sold us on.
EA suck in sports games now, the only reason Madden is on top is because EA bought the rights to the NFL and now no other company can make a Pro Football game.

I'm ganna have to go with UFC. I don't like punching with the joystick. Thow I did hear somewere that there will be a patch in September for FN so you can use the face buttons for punching. Then I'd have to give my vote back to FNR4.
