Just Cause 2
While it had its share of problems, Just Cause took sandbox games out of the playground and onto the beach, arming your player with a grappling hook, parachute, and the ability to hijack, skyjack, skydive, and parasail throughout one of the largest open worlds ever created. Unfortunately, the combat wasn't quite as exciting and the open world was a bit samey and sparse. Eidos and Avalanche Studios know that, and they've upped the ante in Just Cause 2, allowing you to go to more places and blow them up bigger.
Just Gorgeous
The first, most obvious improvement in Just Cause 2 is the increased graphical fidelity. While the original was no visual slouch, the level of detail, the vibrancy of colors, and the realism of the special effects in this sequel are almost breathtaking. A quick skyjacking revealed to us the variety of environments too, as we witness arid deserts, snow capped mountains, and the lush jungles familiar to fans of the first. Thankfully, all of the locations are better populated than the original, with locations teeming with opportunities to take on side missions, engage in a variety of races, and create chaos.
Like the original, Just Cause 2 puts you in the fine designer shoes of Rico Rodruigez as he starts a guerilla war against another propaganda-fueled dictatorship. The key to overthrowing them? Chaos. Destroying tools of propaganda like military compounds, recruitment stations, and the military leaders themselves help turn the cause in your favor and unlock new missions. The very nature of many of the game's missions allow you to create a fair amount of chaos, but the great thing about the system is that you can dish it out at your own pace. And judging by the new combat abilities and excellent-looking explosions, we can say most will be doing it fast and furiously.
Just Destructive
The most amazing new innovations to combat in Just Cause 2 have come from the original's primary item, the grappling hook. While the original had you using it almost entirely as a transportation tool, some great combat opportunities can now be had. The hook can be used to pull in enemies or yank them from high altitudes, but the best way to inflict death is by using the dual hook feature. This unique ability allows you to tether any two things together with your grappling hook. Enemies can be tethered to buildings to set up easy executions, or attached to vehicles and dragged to their demise.
And the new fun doesn't stop there. The hijacking system has been enhanced so that you can now engage in combat while standing atop moving vehicles. The parachute is much more versatile, as you can get air much more easily and navigate with greater speed and precision.
It's been a long wait to find out the nitty gritty on Just Cause 2, and luckily, the wait has been worth it. This game could be one of 2009's biggest action hits.

Dark Void looks great. But lets not pretend this kind of combat hasnt been done before. I hate to break this to everybody. But Tribes has been doing the kind of similar combat for like ten years now.
