The PSP is the only handheld system to take on Nintendo and prosper. Here are 8 ways to get the most out of this versatile handheld gaming and media system.
- Battery life! Sony's PSP is a powerful system, but for the quality that the handheld pumps out, the system's battery life definitely takes a few hits. On average, the PSP has a gameplay battery life that ranges from four to six hours, but can definitely last longer when you take measures such as turning the wi-fi off, lowering the system's volume, or dimming the handheld's backlighting.
- Intenet connectivity! With built in Wi-fi functionality, the PSP can pick up on any roaming wireless signals. With its built in web-browser, you can surf the net, or hook up with other PSPs for wireless multiplayer action.
- Keep it updated! One of the benefits of the PSP's interface is that it's constantly being updated and upgraded with new features. On the down side, you might not be able to play that hot new title you picked up until you install the latest firmware update; in those cases, the game disc should contain the new software you need. It's always a good idea to check the PSP's System Update option periodically to see if you're missing out on new hardware features.
- Game sharing! Two PSPs, but only one game UMD? No problem! Many PSP games come equipped with a game-sharing option, meaning you only need one copy of the game if you want to play it over Wi-Fi with your friends.
- It's more than a gaming system! The PSP can also be used to store videos, photos, and can even double as an MP3 player. In fact, tests have shown that when used solely as a music player, the PSP's battery life can last over ten hours - an impressive technical achievement.
- Upgrade your memory! Stock Memory Stick Duo expansion cards may only hold 256 megabytes, but thankfully you can upgrade your storage capacity with other memory sticks that range up to 16 gigabytes.
- Hook it up to your computer! With a USB cable, you can hook your PSP up to your PC or Mac, and drag and drop converted videos and game demos right onto your hard drive. It doesn't get much easier than that.
- Remote Play with the PS3! If you have a PlayStation 3, you can register your PSP handheld with your console, and wirelessly sync up the two with the PSP's Remote Play feature! Using the Playstation Network, users can download exclusive games, purchase exclusive content, grab free demos, or even stream a PlayStation 1 game off a disc left in your PS3 at home.
