Resident Evil 5: 5 Tips to Staying Alive

RE5: B.S.A.A. Survival Guide: GamePro's crack zombie-hunting experts are here with 5 tips to staying alive, including tips and tricks for infinite EVERYTHING!

#5: No Handgun For Sheva

In Resident Evil 5, one of the first tricks that will make your life easier is replacing Sheva's handgun. While it's initially useful in the introduction chapter, Sheva will later rely on her M92F pistol when the situation clearly doesn't call for it. As soon as you find another suitable weapon -- your first opportunity will likely be the VZ61 submachine gun during the Executioner battle -- give it to Sheva and take away her handgun as soon as humanly possible. Our favorite combination for Sheva is a machine gun and a rifle, making her a threat both in tight corners and picking off baddies at long range.

Sheva will stubbornly stick to her handgun in the worst situations possible, so equip her with rifles and machines guns ASAP.

Furthermore, Sheva (or whomever your A.I. partner is) will be best suited to handle a rifle or machine gun, since she can practically nail most Majini dead between the eyes. For the best long-range results, we recommend the high firepower of the S75 rifle, which will take out most enemies in a single shot. If you want to keep Sheva stockpiled with ammo, equip her with a machine gun and hold yourself to weapons that don't share the same bullet type.

#4: Ammo Quantity, Not Quality

If you're running low on ammo and are about to hit the end of a chapter, don't reload just yet! When you're managing your inventory, upgrade your gun's ammo capacity first. Not only is this traditionally the cheapest and fastest upgrade you can max out, but it'll also completely restock your ammunition.

Make sure to prioritize ammo quantity in your upgrades as well, and don't spend any money on reload speed if it can be applied elsewhere. The quickest way to reload your gun is actually via the menu. It'll take a bit of practice to get good at it, but you can instantly reload your ammo without lag simply by combining an ammo clip with its respective gun in your inventory menu.

Learning how to execute a quick reload via the inventory menu can save you valuable seconds.

#3: Line 'Em Up, Knock 'Em Down

One of the worst things you can do in Resident Evil 5 is let yourself get surrounded on all sides by enemies. In most areas, there's a good chokepoint that you should take advantage of in order to effectively same ammo and keep an eye on your partner. Trust us, the minute one Majini spots you, he'll call his comrades over and chase you to wherever you are on the map. When this happens, turn narrow hallways and small corridors into deathtraps by picking off enemies as they cram into tight spaces. The only time you should be running is when you're facing large Majini that require grenades and bombs to put down.

Backing into corner is sometimes the best way to make sure you can't get surrounded -- let them come to you!

Infinity trick RUINS the experience... like that duplication bug in Oblivion... other than that, nice tips.

Who else figured out the infinity glitch on their own? didn't take me long, i noticed once i played for a bit, but had to leave and saved and came back to find it still there
very handy, although i made myself not use it on my first play through i didnt wanna spoil it

I just beat re5 last night, and only managed to completely upgrade 2 guns... this infinity cheat is very tempting because otherwise it would take a long freaking time to upgrade all of them for the achievement.

Actually, the best way to earn upgrades on your guns is with that infinite spawn cheat -- I actually didn't figure it out until my third time starting the game :S

i don't even consider the last one a cheat. now the "egg glitch" on the other hand--that's a cheat. 90k in two minutes; upgrading all your guns in about a day; this is not how capcom intended the game to be played. i expect it to be patched REAL soon

I don't know about you guys but I like to play my games as legitimently as possible. Not only for achivments, but also for the satisfaction of beating something on its hardest setting with no help.
