Halo Wars Havoc: The 6 Deadliest Units in the Game
- February 23, 2009 00:00 AM PST
GamePro reveals the six most devastating units that span across both the Covenant and UNSC forces in Halo Wars!
The reviews for Halo Wars are in (read GamePro's 4 out of 5 stars review) and it looks as though the sci-fi series' real-time strategy game, which hits the Xbox 360 two years after the release of Halo 3, is just what Halo fans will need to hold them off until Halo 3: ODST is unleashed.
Whether you're fighting for humanity as the UNSC, or choking the life from it as the Covenant, you'll have to rely on your infantry, air support, and motor pool to do your dirty work. Here are our picks for the most powerful units from each category.
UNSC

Spartans
Unit Type: Infantry
Spartans have the ability to hijack enemy vehicles, and their shields help them get close enough to accomplish the feat. You're limited to just three, but upgrade the crew with neural implants and lasers and the trio will rock your opponent's world.
Grizzly
Unit Type: Vehicle
What starts out as a common Scorpion evolves into a rolling juggernaut complete with fast-turning turrets and devastating canister shell blasts. Only Sergeant Forge can build them, but they're worth every penny. Just watch out for enemy air support.
Vulture
Unit Type: Aircraft
The Vulture super-unit moves with all the urgency of a sloth, but it can deal tremendous damage to absolutely anything, and its missile barrages can bring down enemy buildings in seconds.
Covenant
Elite Honor Guard
Unit Type: Infantry
Only the Prophet of Regret can churn out these special forces, but you can build up an army of energy swords pretty quickly, and send them into an enemy base in cloaked form. There's no better way to scare the pants off an opponent.
Scarab
Unit Type: Vehicle
You'll need to upgrade your temple to the third age, and building just one of these fearsome behemoths will set you back a whopping 3,000 resources, but this super-unit can almost single-handedly turn the tide in longer matches. Just don't let a Spartan hijack it!
Vampire
Unit Type: Aircraft
The Vampire will take a bad beating if it gets near any anti-air vehicles or turrets, but no other aerial force can touch it. Supplement a few Vampires with an Engineer or two, and you'll virtually own the skies.

I think Cameron's intentions here were to highlight the six deadliest controllable units. Unfortunately, the Flood will not be playable in Halo Wars.

Why are we making a big deal out of this game? Halo Wars blows more than Jenna Jamison in a gang bang scene.
