6 Best Songs in Guitar Hero Metallica

Guitar Hero Metallica: 6 Best Songs in the Game we're Dying to Play

Thank Odin--the Metallica edition of Guitar Hero is coming soon to Xbox 360 and PS3! GamePro's long-haired metal enthusiast/editor sounds off on the 6 most killer tracks included in the game you'll want to play.

Come this March, Guitar Hero: Metallica will tear you Guitar Heroes a new one as the game comes packed with an all-new double bass foot pedal accessory and 28 Metallica tracks that span the Bay Area thrashers' entire career (with some other metal hits like Mercyful Fate's Evil also thrown in there). We handpick the six best Metallica songs included in the upcoming video game, everything from early albums like Kill 'em All and Ride the Lightning to St. Anger and Death Magnetic... er, maybe we'll skip the last two. Now you can finally rinse your ears out from Guitar Hero: Aerosmith.

Battery

Guitar Hero Metallica: 6 Killer Metallica Songs we're Dying to Play

From the album: Master of Puppets (1986)

Why it rules: From the moment you fire up this quintessential thrash metal album and third full-length release from heavy metal behemoths Metallica, this explosive opening track melts your face off like a truck full of World War II-grade napalm. From the acoustic guitar intro to frontman James Hetfield's rapid-fire lyrical assault, this song just kicks a whole lot of ass.

Why it'll make a killer song to play in Guitar Hero: Just like the lyrics in Battery, you too will want to be "smashing through the boundries" of your Guitar Hero drum playing skills as you're "crushing all deceivers, mashing non-believers" in this classic Metallica song. But seriously, it's no coincidence a song with such savage percussion is called "Battery." The new GH double bass foot pedal will come in handy for this one.

Creeping Death

Guitar Hero Metallica: 6 Killer Metallica Songs we're Dying to Play

From the album: Ride the Lightning (1984)

Why it rules: A barbarous auditory bludgeoning of unforgettably epic guitar shreds and pre-90s Metallica abrasive vocal delivery, Creeping Death is a fine offering from my personal favorite album from the bay area thrashers, Ride the Lightning. Just listening to this track alone is powerful enough to turn a peaceful retirement home into a hellish mosh-pit full of liver-spotted, headbanging senior citizens.

Why it'll make a killer song to play in Guitar Hero: Creeping Death is such an exemplary track from Metallica's earlier, more brutal years, a vicious yet melodic song that's loud enough to raise the dead. The vocals in this song might be hard to pull off in Guitar Hero, especially the moments when Hetfield's screechings are at their highest, but we'd love to take a stab at it.

One

Guitar Hero Metallica: 6 Best Songs Included in the Game

From the album: ...And Justice for All (1988)

Why it rules: Though ...And Justice for All can't compete with genuine metal masterpieces like Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets, the fourth track on the album, One, is regarded as one of the band's magnum opuses, and for good reason. The song is so highly regarded it won Metallica their first Grammy Award in 1989. One starts off gentle enough and then evolves into a rage-filled beast around 4:45, with One's huge solo commencing a minute later at 5:45.

Why it'll make a killer song to play in Guitar Hero: One's slower, less chaotic pace should translate into a song more manageable for Guitar Hero novices on both vocals and all three instruments in the game. The track may not be as bone-shatteringly brutal as some Metallica songs, but it's still one of our favorites. Give it a listen and watch Metallica's official music video for One below!
