8 Great Video Game Kings

These men aren't as great as MLK, but they do rule in some ways.
In honor of Martin Luther King day, we've picked the eight most memorable Kings ever to grace video games. Some may be incompetent, others may lack power, and none can ever match up against a real-life civil rights pioneer, but they've all ruled our gaming memories.
8- King Dedede (Kirby's Dream Land)
Most kings are content to have armies fight on their behalf, keeping as far away from battle as possible. When your enemy is a giant pink puffball, it's not a bad idea to join the fight. King Dedede may not be successful against said puffball, but we're proud of him anyway, and it seems like Nintendo is too, since he got a coveted roster spot in
Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Are you ready to have your mind blown? Not only is King, who starred in a game called King of Fighters, not a member of royalty, she
isn't a man! Despite the obvious roadblocks in King's way towards ever being a real king, she can readily kick the ass of some very seasoned fighters.
While Princess Zelda may be the sovereign ruler over Hyrule throughout most of Link's Adventures, in the Wind Waker, the top of the monarchy hierarchy belongs to one King Daphnes of Hyrule. Though Hyrule is only a shadow of its greater incarnations, and Daphnes spends the game speaking through a boat, he still manages to make his rule count, as he aids Link in his epic quest.
5- King Koopa (Super Mario Bros.)
While his title has fallen from the tongue of most gamers, Bowser was originally better known by his royal standing--the King of Koopas. Back before he engaged in
kart races and
soccer matches against his sworn enemy, King Koopa made an art form out of kidnapping princesses and shooting fireballs across dark dungeons.
