8 Features We Want in Punch-Out!!

8 Features We Want in Punch-Out!!

While the finely-tuned gameplay is the chief reason we love the game, another way that Mario Strikers Charged continues to entertain the GamePro staff is by taking common Nintendo perceptions and turning them on their ear. Waluigi crotch chopping? Daisy acting sexy? Donkey Kong showing fear? Next Level Games actually added a hint of complexity to these characters. A few of them added a bit of a T-rated touch to the title, too, which we heartily encourage in Punch-Out!! After all, soccer and boxing events are known for being over the top. Let's see an obese King Hippo with hygiene problems and a Von Kaiser with a militant meanness.

3. Nintendo Ring Girls

8 Features We Want in Punch-Out!!

This one's a long shot, but it's not entirely out of the question. Based on some of the raunchy content featured in Next Level Games' Mario Strikers Charged, putting a slightly more adult spin on the Nintendo universe isn't completely out of the question. Imagine Suitless Samus in a skintight outfit, Peach falling out of in a bikini, and even Zelda in perhaps some royal lingerie, gracing the arena by holding up signs that let us know what round is up next. Hey, it could happen.

2. Play as Other Boxers

8 Features We Want in Punch-Out!!

We realize that Little Mac is an integral part of the Punch-Out!! experience, and we wouldn't want to slug our way through the Minor, Major, and World Circuits with any other fighter. But when it comes to the previously-pined-for multiplayer we're gonna need a bit more diversity. We'd love to finally lace up the gloves of King Hippo or Bald Bull, utilizing their special moves while taking on the risks of their obvious weaknesses. The series has been dormant for almost 15 years, so we hope the game can evolve enough from the original to allow a major move like this.

1. NES Style Controls

8 Features We Want in Punch-Out!!

Don't get us wrong; we love the look of Punch-Out!! thus far, and we have nothing but the utmost confidence in Next Level Games' abilities. That being said, we've been a bit leery hearing the rumors that Punch-Out!! will be strictly a motion-controlled game. The previous Punch-Out titles depended heavily on the use of dependably accurate button presses, and Nintendo's boxing efforts on the Wii thus far in Wii Sports and Wii Fit haven't really instilled a high level of confidence in alternative control methods for boxing. Nintendo's been really great so far about offering up traditional and motion controls for games like Smash Bros. Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. Hopefully Punch-Out!! will follow that trend.

You must be kidding, I still remember all the old codes, and they need to bring those back too. Code to Super Macho Man: 267 853 7538. Code to Mike Tyson: 007 373 5963. How many times have we entered those codes? It would be nice to skip to our favorite characters with the codes for nostalgia!

Hey MasterGamer666, nice picture dork...except mine is better. Punch Out sounds like a snooze-fest.

Great list those are really good ideas but I don't agree with the multiplayer it just wouldn't feel like punch out. I know it needs reply value but how about mini-games the original showed him working out, so how about stuff like a jump rope and jogging mini-game with motion controls where you have to mimick his actions.

As much as Punch Out is PERFECT for Wii motion controls... I have to agree with number 1. It would be awesome if you could use old-school controls... especially after a few rounds. After 5 minutes of Wii Sports boxing, I'm tired and I have to stop. The rest of the list is great too... I'd love to be able to use all the boxers in the game, even if only in mutliplayer mode (and hopefully online). Story mode needs little Mac!

I agree with most of the points, but even if Punch Out didn't have any of them, it would still be an awesome game (unless the motion controls themselves suck, which chances are with Nintendo behind the game they won't)
