Surviving the 20 Biggest Moments in Dead Space

Dead Space has proved itself to be one of the most spine-chilling games we've played in years, but the game is hardly without its share of grueling moments. Read this guide to find out how to survive the 20 hardest moments in the game!
WARNING: GIGANTIC SPOILERS AHEAD!
#20: The First Time You Die
Okay, I'll be the first to admit that this is an odd choice to have on the "Biggest Moments" list, but one of the fantastic things about Dead Space is that with danger lurking around every corner, there are just so many ways for Isaac to die! From having a Guardian pluck his head off like a wine-cork to a Slasher slice him in twine like a bloodied paper-doll, there's always quite a violent out for poor Isaac, and what better way to learn from your mistakes than to watch our protagonist's neck pour blood like a plasma sprinkler?
#19: Deserted
You've arrived on the USG Ishimura with your crew constantly at each other's necks, only to discover that very soon, you'll have to worry about something else lunging at your neck entirely. When you first set foot on the Ishimura, you know something's wrong-from the organic, living walls to the Necromorph-infested crew. As soon as you make it back to the shuttle that you arrived in, a barrage of Slashers and Lurkers cover your windows, attacking the helpless vessel. Once your control hub bursts into flames, your only option is to flee as your only ticket home explodes into ash behind you.
#18: Entering Zero Gravity
There's nothing like your first time in a zero-G environment. Using his boots to weigh him down, ala Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Isaac propels himself from various metal surfaces, literally turning his world upside down. In Dead Space's unique zero-G puzzles, it's often a requirement to climb the walls or leap from metal grating to metal grating in order to get from point A to B. Throw in some hungry Necromorphs, also trying to stay afloat without any gravity, and you have one hell of a challenge.
#17: The Ripper
There are certain guns in certain games that just stick with you; from the first time you fired the Gravity Gun in Half-Life 2 to the first headshot you scored with Halo's pistol, there are certain weapons that just leave an impression on you. Enter the aptly named Ripper, a mechanic's tool that fires saw blades at your enemies, holding the blade in force with an invisible field as you literally mow your enemies down, and with dismemberment being the name of the game in Dead Space, the Ripper proves itself an invaluable tool.
#16: Using Your Mind
If you thought Dead Space was all about running and gunning, you're sorely mistaken. A wide array of puzzles is only complimented by Isaac's Stasis and Kinesis modules, granting the engineer psychic powers to help maneuver through the Ishimura's landscape. With the Stasis unit, Isaac can slow down items and enemies for a temporary lapse in time, giving him the time he needs to slip between the blades of a giant fan, or sneak behind a Necromorph and whack it in the head. With the invaluable Kinesis module, however, Isaac can lift, drag, pull, and shoot any and everything lying around the ship's deck, from valuable crates filled with ammo and med-kits to playing repair-man and replacing burnt-out energy cores to open the next door, or operate the upcoming elevator. Oh, and one of the best things about Kinesis? Say you're out of ammo, but those severed Necromorph limbs look pretty sharp... simply grab hold of them using Kinesis, and fire Slashers' dismembered appendages back at them!
#15: The Asteroid Storm
There are few moments in gaming that really make you think "Man... that was intense." It may be re-visiting Shadow Moses in Metal Gear Solid 4, or it may be your first Big Daddy takedown in BioShock, but there's no mistaking that Dead Space's asteroid storm will no doubt go down in infamy. Throughout the duration of Chapter Four, the Ishimura is attacked by a ruthless barrage of asteroids of all shapes and sizes. This doesn't just prove a problem to the people trying to restore order inside of the ship, but can definitely prove a bit hectic when, oh, I don't know... you're running across the hull of the ship, ducking behind metal crates for cover as your zero-G boots are the only things keeping you from being cast out into deep space? Not only does the asteroid storm make for some fantastic puzzles, such as using your Kinesis to remove "anomalies" from an engine room, but the penultimate moment is when you're placed behind the Ishimura's asteroid cannon, and in a modern day version of "Asteroids", are forced to blast away the army of rocks before they breach the hull of your ship.
#14: The Brute
Oh boy... from the chainsaw-wielding zombie in Resident Evil 4 to the Boomer in Gears of War, there have been few enemies I've dreaded facing as much as Dead Space's Brute. This behemoth has a severe Achilles' heel on its back, however, so if you can use Stasis to slow the beast down, try to maneuver yourself behind the Brute and unload on his spine with a Pulse Rifle or Ripper. If he doesn't die with the first barrage of gunfire, don't get discouraged - just get yourself out of harm's way (specifically his massive arms), and try to position yourself behind him again. If the Brute huddles on a floor, seize fire-it' thrown up an exoskeleton that will only disappear once a few seconds have passed, so use this time to position yourself behind the beast. Taking down this monstrosity is quite an achievement... no, literally; once you kill your first Brute, you're treated to the "Brute Force" achievement!
#13: Regeneration
What could possibly be worse than a bloodthirsty Slasher, you ask? How about one that regenerates his limbs, for starters? Once the Regenerative Slasher is unleashed, you don't have too much of a choice here: blow his legs off, and then run! The Slasher will follow you into a room with a cryogenic freeze machine conveniently in the center. Using yourself as bait, lead the Slasher into the center of the cryo machine, throw Stasis on him, and blast all of his limbs off. You only have a few seconds for this next part, so be quick: rush into the control room while the limbless Slasher is regenerating, and initiate the cryo-machine, freezing the Slasher in place.
#12: Meet the Leviathan
And you thought the Brute was big! This gargantuan monster has four points of interests: its three tentacles, and its glowing, gaping maw in the beast's center. For each of the Leviathan's tentacles, aim at the glowing yellow sac on each tentacle to blow said appendage off. Once you've blown off all three of the Leviathan's tentacles, it'll open its gaping mouth, also glowing yellow, and spit small, explosive chunks at you. Use your Kinesis module to grab the red chunks and fire them right back into the monster's maw, causing the beast to choke, and earning you the "Play Catch" achievement in the process!
#11: Reunited!
Is it really her? Isaac's love interest, Nicole, is safe and sound on board the Ishimura. She offers her help by overriding door locks inaccessible to Isaac, but watch out: a series of freshly borne Slashers are in a hurry to take Nicole down. Make sure that Nicole doesn't take too much damage, and treat these Slashers like any other Necromorph: aim for their limbs, specifically their scythe-like arms, rendering them harmless. Once Nicole overrides the door locks, you're free to move on, the blonde bombshell promising she'll see you again soon. Yeah-if only things were that easy...

Dead Space is hands-down one of the best horror games ever made.
not one of the best, "THE BEST", put it this way, silent hill, good but average, resident evil 5 great game, great graphics but that game stop being scary since RE4, is more like an action sci fi game now, on the other way DEAD SPACE is forcing u to unlearn the head shot, is trying to tell "THAT SHIT IS OLD" man this game has much more gore than the movie 300, any way, if u like it good, if u don't good to, i just hope everyone gets to experience this game..
