What is your favorite game of all time?
Civilization -- the perfect blend of deep strategy and world-building. I've played thousands of hours of Civ since it first came out.
What is your favorite console of all time?
Sega Genesis, without a doubt. I remember laughing when my brother first got it because there was only one cool game available, Altered Beast. But then Madden and NHL Hockey came out, and I was hooked.
Normal or inverted?
Normal. Hello?!
Most Memorable Gaming Moment of All Time?
The first Metal Gear Solid. I'll never forget the Psycho Mantis fight where you had to plug your PS1 controller into the other port so that Psycho Mantis couldn't "read" your mind. Awesome! The way MGS broke the 4th wall is one of the high points in all of gaming.
Favorite movies?
Hmmm...since I got my PS3, I've been into watching the classics on Blu-ray. The Shining stands out as great. More modern faves include The Matrix and No Country for Old Men.
Favorite TV series?
The Wire, without a doubt.
Favorite books?
Oh man, where to start. Cormac McCarthy's The Road is my favorite book of recent memory. There's another great book about apocalyptic events called Blindness by Jose Saramago. I guess I like the dark stuff.
First review for GamePro?
Even though I'm the boss, I'm relatively new to reviews. My first GamePro review was MLB2K6 for the Xbox 360.
The worst moment of your gaming life?
The Legend of Zelda. I got all the way to the end, and then one of my brothers somehow erased the cartridge when unplugging the NES. I had to replay the entire game. This time when I got to the end...one of my brothers somehow erased the cartridge AGAIN. Epic fail. The third time was a charm, thankfully.

What is your favorite game of all time?
Super Metroid (Super NES)
What is your favorite console of all time?
The Super NES. It had such a strong collection of games and the unit ushered in the "golden age" of gaming.
Normal or inverted?
Normal (are you mad?)
Most Memorable Gaming Moment of All Time?
A couple of them. Kefka destroys the world in Final Fantasy VI...and the game continues. The death of Aeris in Final Fantasy VII was also unforgettable, as was the Mother Brain saving Samus in Super Metroid.
Favorite movies?
The Wild Bunch; Citizen Kane; Casablanca; Hiroshima, Mon Amour; The Birds; and Tokyo Olympiad, which is the greatest documentary ever made.
Favorite TV series?
Of all time: Hill Street Blues
Currently: The Shield
Favorite books?
American Tabloid by James Ellroy; Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger; Salems' Lot by Stephen King; The Last Battle by Cornelius Ryan; and Whistle by James Jones.
First review for GamePro?
Nosferatu (Super NES, 1995) was the first review I wrote for GamePro. It appeared in the July 1995 issue.
Longest Game Nearly Finished in One Sitting?
I played The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Super NES) for almost two days straight, and came close to finishing it.

What is your favorite game of all time?
Shite. Well, Metal Gear Solid 4 is very, very high on that list. I adore System Shock 2 and Deus Ex (oh, and Duke Nukem 3D!). But man, in terms of sheer man-hours invested...I've got to go with Diablo II. I am still playing that wretched, wretched game.
What is your favorite console of all time?
Sega Genesis ranks high, so very high. I enjoy the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 a lot as well. But if I had to choose just one, I guess I'd choose the PC - I have so many pleasant memories of games like Quake III, Thief: Deadly Shadows, Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War...the list goes on. Unfortunately, the PC gaming scene ain't what it used to be.
Normal or inverted?
Inverted. It's got to be inverted, or I simply can't play.
Most Memorable Gaming Moment of All Time?
I remember loading up Duke Nukem 3D for the first time, on the advice of former GamePro veteran Dan Amrich, and being absolutely stunned. The visual style, Duke's witticisms, the movie spoofs, the razor-sharp action...all priceless. A simply stupendous game that, to me, had vastly more impact than Doom, Quake, or Halo. It really set my imagination racing.
Favorite movies?
Kill Bill Vol. 1 (saw it five times in theaters), Aliens (theatrical cut preferred), Blade Runner (The Final Cut), The Descent (looks amazing on Blu-ray), 300, Reservoir Dogs, The Matrix. The Dark Knight was pretty damned good, too.
Favorite TV series?
Seinfeld, The Simpsons (before season 9), Family Guy (before season 4), Battlestar Galactica, Dexter, The Sopranos, Firefly, The West Wing (before season 5), and a little something I like to call The State.
Favorite books?
Currently, I've been on a big graphic novel kick: The Walking Dead series by Robert Kirkman (I can't recommend it enough), Preacher by Garth Ennis, Watchmen by Alan Moore, and The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller. As for "real books," I was a big fan of the obscure sci-fi pulp series Deathlands, by James Axler, until the original author died years back and the series went to hell. I also enjoy almost anything by Harlan Ellison, Dan Simmons (The Terror and Hyperion are stunning), and Stephen King. I also loved Ender's Game, despite the fact that Orson Scott Card is obviously a disturbed man.
First review for GamePro?
I still remember! It was Top Gear Overdrive for the Nintendo 64. I had no idea what I was doing -- I was just 18 -- but it turned out okay in the end, I suppose. One generic racing game is as good as another, right?
Secret career ambition?
To work on a cool video game series of my own. Wait until you hear about my idea for combining Dawn of the Dead and Grand Theft Auto...
Super-secret secret?
Well, it's not much of a secret at this point, but I do like the boys.
