There are five total Mario items you'll need to ?nish the game, and they can be pretty tricky to come by.
MARIO'S HAT
This one is the easiest and one you won't miss. Just check the washing machine in the laundry room.
The letter shakes loose once you rattle the birdhouse in the backyard. Since the birdhouse is pretty small, it's sort of easy to miss your first time through the yard.
You receive this after defeating the twins. The method is described earlier in this guide.

Go to the theater room and activate the movie by hitting the film projector. As soon as you do, ghosts appear-although you can see only their shadows from the light cast by the projector onto the screen.
Stand in front of the screen so you can see where the ghosts are coming from. Zing all ghosts, and your reward will be Mario's Glove!

This is by far the trickiest item to obtain. First, go to the room with the circular candle configuration and light up the candles with your flame.
The cute little fellas with the masks and pitchforks will appear. Once again, take away their masks and then hit them with the old shine and vacuum. Once clear, go into the next room to the right.
In the observatory, look through the telescope. After the crash, go to the edge of the new pathway and catch one of the falling stars with your vacuum. Once you have it, aim at the planet in the distance. You'll know if you hit it
Once you've hit the planet, the bridge will lead a path to the wondrous star item.
