PlayStation 3 2009 Release Date Calendar
Final Fantasy XIII
TBA 2009
The most important RPG series ever hits the PS3...when?
Final Fantasy XIII is one of the most important games for the PS3, but its release date is at least a year away.
System seller? Yes. Perhaps more than any game on this list, Final Fantasy has proven time and time again to be a key system seller: the PlayStation and PS2 would have suffered greatly if not for exclusive versions of Final Fantasy VII and X, respectively. This epic role-playing series simply has what it takes to attract a huge, passionate audience, and we have no doubt that trend will continue for its PS3 inaugural. Final Fantasy XIII looks to have a faster, more action-packed pace than its predecessors, which may further extend the appeal. This one's a no-brainer: Final Fantasy XIII will be a huge help in growing the PS3's user base. The only downside is a long wait, as the game is rumored to be a 2009 release.
God of War III
TBA 2009
The PS3's most important action game.
The son of Zeus comes to claim his rightful throne.
System seller? Yes. Since its inception in 2005, the God of War series has graduated to top brass in Sony's lineup in record time. The God of War games have a history of launching in March: the first game arrived on March 22nd of 2005; God of War II hit March 13th of 2007, and the PSP prequel Chains of Olympus arrived on March 4th of this year. A March timeframe for a PS3 God of War 3 would be a literal godsend for Sony - the series is a monster hit, with over 5 million units sold in just three years. Its arrival on the PS3 is a crucial step in Sony's plan for PS3 domination, but the key question remains: when?
Tekken 6
TBA 2009
The most graphically advanced fighter is only for the PS3.
This Cell-enabled brawler is already online in Japanese arcades.
System seller? No. Fighting games aren't as popular as they were in the 90's, but they still command a loyal, core following and are an important asset in any console's game lineup. Outside of Street Fighter IV, no active fighting series is as experienced - or as respected - as Tekken. Built around the PS3's Cell CPU and Blu-ray technology, Tekken 6 is about as PS3-exclusive as they come. It's also a beautiful piece of programming, with HD visuals, photo-realistic character models, and an exciting new combo mechanic that sends victims crashing through walls and floors.
The key question is, "when?" Tekken 6 is already thriving in Japanese arcades, but there's no word on the inevitable PS3 home port. The actual conversion process should be a no-brainer -- the arcade cabinet is literally a PS3 integrated into an HD TV - but Namco is silent on the inevitable home version. While Tekken 6 won't be a crucial game for the PS3, it will fill an important niche and is yet another quality exclusive for the PS3.
Twisted Metal PS3
TBA 2009
"Twisted Metal is coming on PSTHREE."

System seller? No. A relic from the earliest days of the PlayStation, the Twisted Metal series is in dire need of a facelift. Luckily, Twisted Metal mastermind David Jaffe and his new studio Eat Sleep Play are hard at work on the next Twisted Metal, and it's coming exclusively to the PS3. The game was announced as a hidden message in the recent PS2 port of Twisted Metal: Head On, but the studio hasn't released any further details. We're betting that Twisted Metal PS3 is a long ways over the horizon, with a likely 2009 release date. While not a major franchise at the moment, Twisted Metal appeals to many 90's PlayStation owners and a PS3 version could be a key asset. Time will tell.

Hey Goofball1, your name says it all huh? Since you obviously havent been reading on the latest info on the Wii, let me fill you in. The Wii is steadily continuing to lose its fanbase because of the lack of good third party titles. Thats not to say stellar titles dont come to the console(hint: Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart). But there aren't enough stellar titles like these to keep the Wii's fanbase up. Sales of the Wii are steadily falling and PS3 sales are steadily rising, especially since amazing titles like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Killzone 2 are coming to the console. PS3 sales will soar even higher when the next price cut hits. Thats why I believe that pretty soon the Wii will fall flat on its face just like the Gamecube did while the PS3 and (unfortunately) the 360 will rise to the top of the gaming food chain. If not this year then next year in 2009.
