Exclusive!

Neversoft, the vidiot savants behind such great PlayStation action games as Apocalypse (a personal fave of editors here), MDK, and Skeleton Warriors, now bust out completely sick with their bet offering yet, Tony Hawk Pro Skater. To say Tony Hawk is just another skateboarding game is like saying sex is just another boring way to spend an evening.

Magic Skate Ball
In THPS, you will grind, ollie, turn, and burn through skate parks, pool parks, half-pipes, and more as you skate through realistically styled skate favorites such as San Francisco's Justin Hermann Plaza (where it is now illegal to skate!) or Seattle's Burnside Park. There are so many cool courses and tricked-out areas to skate that you'll be coming back to Tony's house again and again.

So, you ask, do you just skate, or what? No, my nimble-minded little friend, you don't just skate - you have to work for every single point in the game. There is an elaborate, yet oddly simplistic, system of combos and tricks that you have to pull, including such exotics as the 360-degree kick-flip Banana reverse. Sounds difficult? It is if you're foolish enough to air it out yourself. But it's easier to execute than the Tataglia family.

Big Wheels Keep on Turnin'
Activision, the publishers of the game, made sure that all the licensing deals were in place as well. There are real skaters (including Tony Hawk and nine others), real skate equipment, real boards, and even detailed clothing. But none of that gets in the face of the ass-kicking, face-ripping action of THPS. After your first spill, you'll realize why you never set your fat butt on a board in your life. Pro Skater doesn't stop with the solo action either - you can play in intense head-to-head, grind-to-grind board-knocking action with a friend. There's also tons of other cool modes like Graffiti Tag mode (where pulling a trick off an object tags it, and the only way to erase an opponent's tag is to pull a better stunt off the same object), S-K-A-T-E collection (where you collect the letters to advance) and locating video tapes hidden throughout the course that unlock other skaters, boards, and parks.

Power Tony
What doesn't Tony Hawk have? Nothing, as far as we can tell. After we do an exclusive review on this awesome title you'll also feel the need to bow to Neversoft's superior technological skills. Then you can take their game out for a spin and bust some sick moves yourself.
