Shure SM58 microphone

MSRP: $99.99

We love Guitar Hero and Rock Band as much as you do but these games can't begin to touch the awesome experience of actually rocking out in a real band. Writing your own songs and playing your own instruments--that's where the real action is, kids. And when it's time to record our next top 40 hit, we turn to the Shure SM58 to capture our vocals.

It's one of the most reliable microphones available today and it sports a relatively affordable price. For our money, it's pretty much a no-brain choice when it's time to decide on a vocal mic. The SM58 has been around since the late 60's, which qualifies it for "classic" status, and it's since become a standard for live shows. In addition, although there are plenty of pricier condenser mics out on the market, the SM58 works just fine for recording as well. Get one now and don't forget us when you're famous!

Novint Falcon

MSRP: $239
Website: http://home.novint.com/

Did you know that the first computer mouse was created in 1963? That was 44 years ago! Sure, there have been a ton of refinements made since then but you're basically using the same technology that's been around forever. That's partly because the basic mouse works so damn well--why fix something that isn't broken--but sometimes, we like to venture outside of the box.

That's why we totally dig the Novint Falcon. Resembling something that might have been torn out of the cockpit of a downed UFO, the Falcon is an interesting alternative to the mouse. It's basically a ball that's connected to a base by three arms; the base houses motors that offers you a sense of tactile feedback unheard of in a conventional mouse. There are patches that you can download to make it work with games like Half-Life 2, which can add a new dimension to your gaming experience. We could also see it being useful for graphic artists and engineering types.

We'll need more testing time to see if the Falcon elevates itself from the realm of "cool concept gadget" but we're impressed with what we've seen so far. If you're sick of resting your hand on a mouse all day, this is definitely a product that you should take a look at.
