In pictures: The new 40GB PS3 (page 2 of 2)

Oofa, that's a nice, high-detail shot. As you can see, there isn't much difference between the 40GB and the older 60GB...at least, from a glance. The two USB ports are the only dead giveaway we've spotted

"Okay, okay, I get the point," you're saying. "It looks just like the 60GB one. Fuhgeddaboudit..."

So we know that the 40GB PS3 has a few differences from its older, pricier brothers. It has no PS2 backward compatibility (but it will play PS1 games, so we hear), and a smaller 40GB hard drive. Also, it only features two USB ports instead of the four found on the higher-end models, and the Memory Stick reader is missing.

So what else is different? Not too much, judging by the images we've compared. See for yourself below.

Comparison: 40GB PS3 vs. 60GB PS3
The 40GB: Something seems a little different in the shape and size...or is it just us?

The 60GB: This is where it gets a little more interesting. Not how the convex top appears to bulge out much further compared to the 40GB model. A trick of lighting, or perhaps a funky camera angle?

We're checking with Sony to see if the new 40GB PS3 is, in fact, slightly smaller and less "bulgey" than the 60GB model. Until then, check back for updates!
